External Hard Drives for the Xbox One

#1 Posted by Synekal (33 posts) -

Searching the forums seems to be broken, and I can't find any good answers anywhere else on the web, so;

Does anyone have any good recommendations for an external hard drive to plug into my ONE?

I know it needs to be USB 3.0, but is 7200rpm recommended or will 5400 do?

Are there any other downsides to running games off that hard drive?

I don't have an answer but I'd also like to ask if SSDs are supported as well.

I don't think the external drive support has launched yet... that said, it won't matter what sort of drive it is. There are certain protocol standards that MS will need to support and chances are they will support them.

USB storage is generally USB storage. I assume NTFS or exFat will be required.

If you plan to have games installed on it, I'd recommend a 7200 for quicker load and seek times, however a 5400 rpm drive will work fine.

I forgot about it but I do think the Xbox One's issues with speed have a lot to do with accessing the hard drive for more than one thing at the same time. Installing games to an external SSD might be the way to go.
