It's official. They sent e-mail invitations. I'm sure Jeff and the gang got theirs as well.

I'm hoping they're more focused on media / tv / sports consumption than games personally. Almost all of my time on my Xbox is spent watching Netflix / Hulu / Crackle or MLB.tv or ESPN (I don't have cable, but I can watch the highlights and other videos), or even YouTube. The more content like that, the better for me.
I just want a box that plays games, dagnabbit. All this connectivity and multi-tasking techno-babble makes me want to tell MS to get off my lawn.
You do realize you have a TV that does that for you now. You know...that thing you are going to connect your brand new XBox too?
Granted there is a case that someone who bought their 1080p TV pre-2008 probably doesn't have one that is so "advanced" but then have you checked other stuff you own already that is connected to it? Chances are if it is Samsung or Sony...it has that stuff on there already for you to use. And of course if you have a TV that is older than 2008 at some point you are going to replace it with a TV that can easily have and handle all of that crap.
So yeah, I am not interested if the next XBox has Netflix or Twitter or Crackle or HBO Go or ESPN 360 (or whatever it is called now) because I already have a bunch of things that can do Netflix or Twitter or Crackle or HBO Go or ESPN 360 (or whatever it is called now). What I don't have is something that plays the next Xbox games. Maybe they should focus on that?
I wouldn't say "excited". I'm "excited" for Shin Megami Tensei IV. I'm "curious" about the next Xbox. I would like to know things like tech specs and what their early games are going to be like and what their plans are going to be for bringing in new games both big and small.
Actually, scratch that. I'm curious to know just how far they're going to push those things aside to advertise fucking social features. I've got a device specificallyfor social features, it's called a phone. I don't mean to be cynical but that seems to be the path that MS has been heading down for a long time now.
They really need to focus on:

Developers.
Also, 10 AM. That's kinda early, no? Not that I am complaining, that's a perfect time for me on the other side of the Atlantic.
My memory is a bit foggy but don't they hold their pre e3 conferences around that time anyway? But yeah its great for my time zone, surely thats something they have considered if its being streamed live and all that.
I am very much excited. Reveal events and E3 are what I like to call *Good News Days*, and damn if we all aren't ready for some of those. I think it's the neatest thing about having a special interest like videogames. It's a source for actual good news. Otherwise all I'd ever hear would be horrible news about all the evil shit that transpires while I'm not looking.
I am most curious about Xbox's new gamepad and Kinect 2, and am assuming it offers approximate parity in regards to PS4's overall processing power. Also - it's always awesome to see game reveals on a live stream. There's a bit of that special *it's happening* magic to such a thing.

Why go after the typical gamer who plays games 10+ hours a week when they can get them and all the people who are more interested in doing other things with their Xbox like myself? Casual gamers like me are a larger market. They want the Facebook market, they want the iPhone gamer market. That's the future. That's who they need to appeal to in order to get bigger. They make us happy, they don't have to worry about gamers.
I don't think they've had DEVELOPERS in mind since a bunch of the small and indie developers have been left in the dark on what is going on.
As for "why go after the typical gamer?" the answer is "the typical gamer is the type who will spend $2.50 for a key to unlock a treasure chest they win ". Or maybe "the typical gamer is the one that buys sequel after sequel after sequel along with the $20 season pass for each". I don't think the run of the mill FB user is going to be interested in doing that and isn't going to suddenly be interested in that with the next XBox.

I know what they considered. It was "Ah, fuck Japan".

You can do literally everything social media related with an iPhone (or an Android or whatever). What possible use could someone who is going after social media features have with a dedicated gaming console? Hell, if you don't like doing it on the small screen then you can buy yourself a computer and get even better versions of those social features along with even better versions of Angry Birds and Plants Vs Zombies. No one who is primarily interested in those things is going to buy the next Xbox except on brand name alone, and that does not last forever. For that matter, the casual market doesn't last forever, either, unless they start playing the likes of Mass Effect and Call of Duty - which aren't casual games, and both of which I've seen you mention on these boards.
@jdh5153: F
air enough - but over netflix is the only one of those services that works on 360. and god damn if there isnt 15 other device in my house that already do that.
The 'one box to do everything' makes sense for some households and regions - but mine is not one of them and as such any social features, and focus on stuff i wont have access to yet still have to pay the paywall to get the online gaming that comes with them? (which is basically exactly where the 360 ended up and indications so far are durango retains this focus) are completely out of my interest range right now.
if they show something im not expecting or hadnt even thought of then good for them!! but given how their past 4 e3 conferences have got progressively weaker and weaker -
"Less games!! Less new ip's!! More games in franchises that shouldnt be getting another sequel!! Kinect!! Social and media stuff that is already served elsewhere but this time you pay for it and if you dont live in america then fuck you hahaha!!"
They've got a big old task to change this opinion - and i hope they do! gut feeling says they wont.
@beachthunder: Yeah, but I think they are pretty much hedging their bets on the cable/media box functionality in order to draw in more customers/consumers. So they are pretty much competing against Roku, TiVo, Boxee, and Apple TV. So that I think is where they are putting their efforts into on their end. It's unfortunate though but we'll wait and see at the reveal and at E3 if there are some or if any developer support and to what degree as well.
@beachthunder
I think you forgot about Developers
True. You can't forget about Developers.

YEAH, I'm excited to see what they have produced...I'm wondering what they're going to show there and what they are going to save for E3.
I kid i kid - but if everything focuses on anything but its potential as a GAMES console? im out.
Any overblown pie in the sky kinect bullshit? Gones
tv and media apps that never work in my country? out
I think Kinect 2 could be really cool, if it works as intended. Especially if it's used in a more additive manner, rather than as a replacement for more traditional input methods. Since it's likely going to be a system standard, any game can take full advantage of it, even those that aren't *Kinect Games*.
It's a crying shame that we non-Americans cannot get access to services like Netflix or Amazon Direct and so forth. If a company has the lawyers and lobbying power to create a global marketplace, where such things as TV shows can be published day and date into all markets, then it's a giant like Microsoft.
They'd better not kid themselves, unless their distributing offerings take full advantage of the internet, which means operating on a global scale, rather than serving only local markets, they'll never tame the beast that is the internet's boundless hunger for fresh media, and it taking advantage of being borderless, when content creators are unwilling or unable to serve us all equally, regardless of where we hail from, the internet will get what it wants when it wants it - upon initial availability.
@beachthunder: Yeah, but I think they are pretty much hedging their bets on the cable/media box functionality in order to draw in more people. So they are pretty much competing against Roku, TiVo, Boxee, and Apple TV all at once.
That's what's exciting about it for me. It'll be the reason for my girlfriend to buy an Xbox as well, and many other people who have had no interest in game consoles. This will be the equivalent of the blu ray player in the PS3. A lot of people bought them for blu ray players and at some point down the line at least tried a game or two on it.
Personally, I want the next Xbox to be like my iPad. I want more notifications, so Facebook notifications should pop up like achievement notifications, news notifications, sports notifications, etc. I want to run ESPN or CNN news tickers in games (with a show / hide button). I want to be able to push a button and swap over to Facebook seamlessly, in game, and hit another button to switch back.
This is the kind of thing I hope they're going for.
Too close to E3, they should have probably just waited, what are they going to do, show the exact same stuff twice in a row?
It's okay. I've got my PC for the '' next generation ''.
Dick comment aside, I hope this console will not be a cheap-ass mexican-made RROD mess. I had FOUR x360's during this gen because of how unreliable it is. Also, Microsoft, if you would be kind enough to NOT overcrowd your dashboard with useless bullshit/ads/apps/kinectvomit that makes it super sluggish to navigate through would be very appreciated.
@gaspower: This was on the first 8-4 podcast i listened to and not missed one since then.
I have a feeling the reason it may be early is a private day of playing/testing out the thing before e3?
Didnt a leak a while ago claim that that was the date, if thats true then i wonder how much of the other stuff that microsoft hasnt quite denied yet is true
It kinda kills the hype when they straight up call it the "Xbox Reveal." Shoulda just kept it vague like Sony did to create some tension. I mean everyone knew that they were going to announce the PS4, but it was a situation of "what if they didn't?"
And it should be noted that Microsoft has a stellar track record when showing "late to the party" against both Apple and Google-Android.
I'm not going to complain if it has these features but acting like it is a big and important deal when so many other things do it already and do it better is stupid. They should put Netflix on the thing but that doesn't replace the core functions of the device nor should anyone act like this is the game changer.
It's okay. I've got my PC for the '' next generation ''.

Um. That's a really racist thing to say, dude. I suggest you edit that. Because...yeesh.
I hope they give us enough information straight off the bat that let's me either go "Oh shit I'm gonna buy this thing" or "Fuck that shit". Chances of that actually happening are pretty slim though.
I just want the rumours to be quilled, I know I'm getting it and maybe the ps4 when the slim version gets out...
the rumours sound both cool and scary, a no disc drive always online media box that plays tons of old and new games sounds pretty much like one of my pc builds which can be cool it my net connection wasn't soo spotted at times... the other "better" must have kinect to work and blu-ray xbox could be cool too if I didn't have a low celling basement with not alot of room to flail about like an idiot to make some motion to pick yes or no in a menu

I don't think he meant it like that. He just means cheaply made with cheap materials liked you'd associate with something made in Mexico.
Everyone be talking shit on MS but if they handle this right, it will blow away Sony as follows. This will be on, so it will be more flashy. They will get a lot more press from that. They will show many more games and probably show more features, probably show the box itself which will get a lot of attention, something Sony did not do.
The real reason this is smart timing, is everyone is getting up in arms about it being online only and all sorts of other crap like no used games. If they prove doubters wrong, the relief will be part of the surprise and make the announcement have much more impact. Like, "Hey the doubters are wrong!" It is like the whole idea behind trying to make someone think that you forgot their birthday but then surprise them. The disappointment that proceeded the surprise makes the surprise much sweeter.
Also, I am pretty sure that bitch Frodo won't be there this time. Awesome!
my balls are ready
Also I'm pretty sure they will make the dashboard lightning fast, as they now understand just how important it is. The easier / quicker the product is to use.... the easier and quicker it is for a customer to buy something / the easier it is for microsoft to make money.

Doesn't make it any better. "Mexican-made" has a really ugly, racist connotation to it.

Yeah. I'm really hoping you can run multiple apps at once and do something like 'hold RB or LB' to switch back and forth. So I can have Netflix already up and ready to go and maybe hop over into a game or something without having to back out into the main menu. This is something that would really make the experience much better. I hate the waiting time when I decide I don't want to watch something on Hulu and have to back out to the main menu and load up Netflix. It's much more time consuming than it should be.
http://majornelson.com/2013/04/24/xboxreveal/
Major Nelson posted about it too. Get some.
I'm looking forward to it in that I expect another trainwreck of a press conference like their last 3+ E3s have been. Between my phone and my computer I have social media covered, but Microsoft still seems to think that's not the case. My expectations for this press conference are:
More social media stuff
More Netflix/Youtube/Twitch/ESPN/HBO/etc.
Even more social media stuff
Kinect stuff
A Halo/Gears/some other tired exclusive trailer/demo
A Call of Duty/Battlefield teaser/trailer or something
Probably some more Destiny stuff
Basically, a giant list of shit that I could not give less of a fuck about. It's getting to the point where Microsoft is starting to seem almost as out of touch as Nintendo does.
