WHAT WILL MAKE YOU BUY THE XBOX-ONE?

There's no doubt, Xbox one isn't doing to well in the *Console Wars* But where not gonna have any discussion or arguments on consoles, what exactly will make you but the Xbox one?

Will it be for it's

  • 8GB System Memory
  • It's NEW Blue-Ray Drive
  • Speech Recognition
  • Skype On XBOX One
  • Or even just for its new design
  • Or just to keep you're friends and Gamerscore
  • Or A Certain Game

Absolutely none of those things will make me but buy the XONE. If it wants me, it'll have to wow me game-wise.

Good policies that don't hurt consumers. They need to clear up what the policies are for the console from used game sales to how the subscription service will work. I don't want to hear anymore bullshit. Until they can get their act together I'm just going to ignore them. If it turns out that their policies are fair I'll consider supporting them with sales. If not, I'll take my business elsewhere.

I've never owned a blue ray player.

This gen is stagnated with crap even with PC games.

The New Remedy game.

Xbox will never be anything other than a 3rd platform for me after PC and Playstation because of their exclusives.

The 360 really made me feel ripped off because of the services blocked by Gold membership, I can see how this isn't a big deal if the xbox is your main console, but for someone that may play one or two games a year on it, live is a real drag.

I really can't see myself ever buying a XB1

Games, and for them to get rid of the absolutely creepy as fuck Kinect features. But it is Microsoft so I will just "have to get used to it"

#13 Edited by BeachThunder (11695 posts) -

Honestly, I cannot imagine a situation where I would ever buy one.

#14 Posted by Demodocus (237 posts) -

Considering that I don't watch much TV and I don't like kinect.......It's gonna take Microsoft showing to me that they still care about video games. I already have a cable box, I have an iPhone for twitter, Facebook, etc., I have a PC in my living room for Skype, Netflix etc. But what I do want is a new video game console from a company that is still committed to video games. So far sony seems to be that company. But its early so who knows, Microsoft's focus at their e3 conference is likely going to be the deciding factor on which console I buy at launch.

#15 Posted by VoleMaulder (62 posts) -

Probably the new Remedy game, if we're talking stuff we already know kind of. Forza is a really strong exclusive, too, but if they keep being such idiots by not allowing other steering wheels besides their own crappy one and the not-within-my-budget Fanatec one, I'll probably have to make do with getting my racing fix on other systems.

Bottom line is that exclusive (proper ones, not the ones that are released on PC 6 months later) games will make the difference. That controller looks pretty slick, too, but is not enough by itself.

#16 Edited by Nodima (1103 posts) -

Free online play. Free Netflix and Hulu Plus access. Dualshock 4 support. Did I mention Dualshock 4 support? Dualshock 4 support.

An SKU that lacked anything related to Kinect wouldn't hurt, either. Or a $99 price point.

#17 Posted by Canteu (2821 posts) -

Absolutely nothing.

Perhaps if some crazy homeless person wearing a trench coat handed me one.

#18 Posted by VoleMaulder (62 posts) -

Yeah, besides games, they'd have to reconsider what's behind the Gold paywall. As Jeff said in the E3 aftermath Bombcast, most of the stuff that are now Gold only can be found for free on almost any device out there. It'll be ridiculous if they keep them that way.

#19 Posted by kaos_cracker (568 posts) -

Launch lineup for it, and the blu ray drive. After this fall I will have 3 devices to watch blu ray movies.

  • Place some of the "Gold" only applications like online multiplayer, Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, and Internet Explorer available to "Silver" accounts.
  • Make Gold something worthwhile (i.e. PS+).
  • "Offline" mode that lasts longer than 24 hours. My current 360 isn't connected, either.
  • Competitive pricing for downloadable games. Case in point, I bought Bioshock 1 and 2 for the PC recently for $5. Both for $5. Right now on XBL, they are selling for $20 each.
  • Being able to turn off the camera and the microphone on the Kinect. I've heard through hearsay this is the case, but I want them to say it.
  • An end to Microsoft Points. So very annoying.
  • Porn because, well...porn.
  • A more open system for consumers that allows the modification of purchased games with community created content.
  • Being able to create something on the PC and import it into the XBO such as car skins in Forza.
  • TV, sports, Call of Duty and dogs. Okay, they've got that.
  • Finally, a decent price. For a base unit with the mentioned 500 GB drive, I don't want to pay too much above $400. I absolutely will not pay over $500.

Because so many of the above points are already fulfilled on the PC, and I have a very good PC right now, Microsoft is going to have to go the extra mile to get my attention. Sony, too but to a lesser extent due to their known exclusive franchises. Halo is the only XB title I still care about and that's not enough to warrant a new console. If they have 15 exclusives, at least 5 better wow me.

If it wasnt for the glaring typo.. Your capitalization is such that Id assume you were an undercover marketing fellow.

Also.. Polls!

The thing that will make me buy an Xbox One is several years of great games and a reduction in price. I did not get a 360 until 2008 and a PS3 until 2010. I simply do not make enough to buy new systems and buy games at $60.

#27 Edited by TheBox (11 posts) -

@thejke: yeah lets just hope the prices for the consoles are worth it!

I want pretty much this as well.

I'd also appreciate a little more encouragement of indie game developers, so the equivalent of the service on Xbox One won't end up being uninspired avatar games and rip-offs of other games. Also letting them patch their games without the price tag which plagued Fez would be good.

1. A sku that does not include the Kinect. I don't want that thing in my home.

2. A couple exclusive games that I really want to play.

3. No required online DRM verification of physical disc games

4. Cash purchases on specific dollar amounts for downloadable games and content. Xbox Live still does not allow 400 increment point purchases in Canada right now.

#30 Edited by spraynardtatum (2605 posts) -

No Kinect. That thing steals your dreams.

I probably won't buy one though because of how horribly anti consumer it seems right now.

I just wish they'd comment on ANY of those policies.

No Kinect. That thing steals your dreams.

They say that life's a carousel
Spinning fast, you've got to ride it well
The world is full of Kings and Queens
Who blind your eyes then steal your dreams
...it's Heaven and Hell, oh well

I prefer the MS/Xbox brand over Sony/PS soooo...
I guess the store honoring my pre-order?
I'll most likely eventually get the PS4 as well cuz, well, games.
Then I'll buy an Nvidia 800 series card in 2014.

Exclusives like Gears 4 and Quantum Break. A more tolerable DRM policy and better indie support would be fantastic too.

#36 Posted by UitDeToekomst (702 posts) -

i will probably buy it no matter what it is because i am an idiot and i don't care about money and don't have anything better to spend it on. all i am interested in it for would be continuing to play good single player games, exclusive or not. i really don't care about anything else that may or may not be included.

Well said! I don't give a crap about Halo but otherwise it's spot on.

Forza 5

#40 Posted by Vinny_Says (5686 posts) -

Games in the intercative-video format:

  • Epic's next game that isn't Fortnight
  • Forza 5
  • A new Meachassault/Mechwarrior
  • A new, non-Metro, game from A4 (or Metro again, whatevs)
  • Thief 4
  • Wolfenstein The New Order
  • The next Rainbow Six game
  • Rockstar's next game after GTA 5 (what could it be?)
  • the 4th Fallout game
  • Criterion's 'non racing game' (Black 2?)
  • Rare's "historic" franchise

So if these games are a better option to get on Xone (more friends to play with, achievements, actual good kinect intergration) I'll get me a Xone to play them.

#41 Posted by Shevar (134 posts) -

Halo with the original music!!!!

I know it's a totally lame argument, but ditching the original soundtrack is like taking the Skywalker theme out of Star Wars.

On a more on-topic note: Exclusive games.

I recently (past winter) build a pretty beefy Gaming PC, so I got third party games covered. Both Sony an Microsoft need to show their exclusive lineups and make me care about their console as the sole platform to play those games.

Exclusive map pack access for COD or Destiny ain't gonna cut it, because frankly, I couldn't care less. Show me the Kameos, InFamouses(?), Sly Coopers and Viva Pinatas of this generation.

#42 Posted by RioStarwind (485 posts) -

If they manage to show me a video game that really tells me why I need to buy a Xone then I'll get one. Would be nice if they make gold worth it as well since I almost never payed for it when I had my 360.

#43 Posted by TheDudeOfGaming (6078 posts) -

Nothing. When you join the glorious PC gaming master race, it's till death do you part.

#44 Posted by ptys (1885 posts) -

The controller sucks, they played it too safe. Nothing about what they have planned really interests me and all the games they showed will look just as good on PS4, but my mind was pretty much made up back in Feb.

#45 Posted by kerse (2100 posts) -

Some really good exclusive games and if I can shove the Kinect into my closet and never think about it again (and its not because of the whole it watches you thing other people are flipping out about).

#46 Posted by Capum15 (4811 posts) -

A price drop, most likely. I usually don't get consoles when they first release. I can stick with my laptop and 360 / PS3 for now.

#47 Posted by ThePickle (4153 posts) -
#48 Edited by Levio (1783 posts) -

My demands are strict but fair:

  • Daily Dilbert comics
  • Constant updates on the latest smartphones and accessories
  • A cat calendar app
  • Something to track my kids whenever they leave the house
  • Integration between Kinect and Siri; they should be able to converse
  • Support to play Halo 1, the only true Halo game
  • A cooking channel that runs constantly in the corner of my TV so I'm never bored, even when playing Halo 1
  • Keeps track of where I put my keys
  • Teaches me how to talk to girls
#49 Edited by GaspoweR (2803 posts) -

It'll probably be because of Quantum Break but then again I can just wait a few years for it to come out on PC, unless it becomes another HUUUGE hit on the XbONE, which I hope would happen. I'd like to see a sequel to Alan Wake get made in the future if ever their new game sells really well.

#50 Edited by Dauthi693 (130 posts) -

Only thing i would add that hasn't been mentioned above is better support for indie titles. (journey, hotline mimami, bastion, super meat boy, ftl, spelunky, walkind ddead etc.)

Its got to a point over the last few years that they just can't ignore those games anymore.
