Outsiders are from the new FPS XCOM?

I just went through a gameplay video of the currently in limbo FPS XCOM and it made me remember a side comment on a Bombcast about the Outsiders. So are they not an element of some other old school XCOM (knew they weren't in the original, but hadn't played any others) and are instead intended as a hint to the FPS?

Because it kinda is telling how deadly they seem to be to 1950's Army dudes and G-men (other than the player character) in relation to any XCOM soldier circa 2015 (at least not rookies). And given the quality of Enemy Unknown, I now kinda have an interest in that game now, even with such a minor reference.

These supposed screenshots are pretty telling. Also, sorry for the long link. @Ubersmake: Just so you know for future reference, highlight the text you want to be the link then click that link button next to image and it does this. Much cleaner.

They, like the Thin Men (technically), were not in the original X-COM.

It should be noted that Thin Men are very clearly re-imagined Snakemen.

Outsiders do kinda come together all block like like the aliens in that XCOM fps. Also, the game looks worse in 3rd person form. Got some Deus Ex 1 looking character textures up in those screenshots.

@Bumpton: I don't think anyone really knows. A few months ago there were rumors of it now being a free to play third-person shooter. At this point, it's entirely possible that it gets cancelled and never released in any form.

Nobody knows, but regardless of the fate of that game, we all got a great updated version of the original, so the revival of the XCOM brand wasn't for naught.

@Chaser324: Very true. I've been playing the hell out of it too. I was just stoked about the FPS/TPS. As a big Mass Effect fan, it seems like it'd totally scratch that same itch. Plus, I'm a bit of a sucker for games set in the '60s... It's a little too rare if you ask me.
