A common type of stage featured in many games. Slippery ice, avalanches, and freezing water are some of the unpleasantries to be had when visiting these cold arctic regions.
A rather unpleasant experience, where your journey takes you to the insides of a bigger creature, followed by a desperate attempt to make it 'through', alive and undigested.
A situation where the player-controlled character loses their life immediately. The quickness of that demise is often a stark departure from the balance of power, and sometimes the rules, established by the developers during the rest of the game.
Games in which the two main protagonists are of different species.
An invisible object is something that can't be seen, but is still there. Sometimes it is a hidden bonus item, or part of a puzzle to be solved.
Take an item and throw it at the enemy.
It's arguably the one move that symbolizes the medium to those outside it. The ability to jump, be it onto a building, a platform, or a skull, is one of the all time most important abilities ever put in a video game.
Games made for a younger audience, usually between 3-9.

The first 7 children of Bowser in Mario's adventures. They also appear in 2 animated shows produced by DiC Entertainment and Nintendo. Their names are: Iggy, Lemmy, Wendy, Ludwig, Larry, Roy & Morton Jr. They love to cause trouble. Miyamoto recently denied that they are Bowser's Children.
Games with language selection allow the player to choose which language is displayed or spoken in the game.

The concept of lives in video games evolved to let the player get a second chance after failing once. The most recognizable symbol is the heart.
Magikoopas are spellcasting Koopas who made their debut in Super Mario World.
Mecha-Koopas are small mechanical versions of Bowser himself.
These are often a departure from the conventional gameplay of a game. There have also been compilations; games including only minigames. The Mario Party series has a lot of minigames, too!
A simple texture mapping graphics mode on the SNES that allows a background layer to be rotated and scaled. Many game developers used this to create faux-3D worlds and environments.
A mole that is featured in the Mario franchise.
Using gestures with the controller to control on-screen actions. Alternatively, these gestures can also be detected by motion-sensing cameras.
Animals that can be ridden by players to get around faster.
Platforms conveniently moving you towards your destination to allow the crossing of large expanses which would otherwise be impossible to cross.
Two or more characters are featured on the game's box art.
Sometimes one playable character just isn't enough.
Never Ending Games is a self-explanatory concept in which a game is unbeatable and never ends, due either to the game having no true ending or because the game is not saved (or truly continued) after the last section of the game.
When Nintendo dropped the price of the 3DS a couple months after release, those early adopters who bought the system before the price drop and registered it by signing into the eShop became the Nintendo 3DS Ambassadors.
Games that can be played with one hand, typically using only half of a standard controller or only the mouse/keyboard.
