Okamoto joined Capcom in 1984, where he continued to create innovative titles such as 1942. He also played a key role in creating the Street Fighter game.
Through Flagship, Okamoto proceeded to develop games for Capcom including Resident Evil. He was also involved in producing both the first and second Resident Evil movie adaptations. In 2004, he resigned from Capcom to form his own video game company, Game Republic.
In 2005, Game Republic released Genji: Dawn of the Samurai for the PlayStation 2. A sequel, Genji: Days of the Blade was released on the PlayStation 3 in late 2006. Another title for the PS3 entitled, Folklore was released in 2007.

Yoshiki Okamoto was heavily involved in the creation of such games as Gyruss and Time Pilot, both of which set unprecedented standards in the shoot 'em up genre. Although the two titles were financially successful for his employer, Konami, there was some internal disagreements due to Okamoto being told to have created a driving game instead.
