Concepts

Artificial Intelligence

Artificial Intelligence, or AI, commonly refers to the programmed behaviors of NPCs in a game, whether it's the fact that a soldier takes cover behind a wall in Gears of War, or that townspeople cheer upon your arrival to their village in Fable.
Blood

Necessary to sustain life in organic creatures, the crimson fluid known as blood tends to make appearances when the body's structure is compromised in some way, a very, very common occurrence in videogames.
Blood Splatter

When blood will splash textures on walls or floors and even roofs.
Communism

Communism is an economic and political ideology which seeks to eventually achieve a classless society that promotes equality in racial, social and religious terms.
Crosshair

A sight placed on the HUD used to aim and provide a point of reference to the player when looking and interacting with the game world. Although they often aim weapons, they have a variety of uses and have appeared in many games in many different forms.
Crouching

Crouching is an essential part of many shooters and plastformers, and can be useful to stay under cover and avoiding incoming projectiles
Cutscene

A non-interactive sequence within a game most often used for plot advancement.
Digital Distribution

Digital Distribution is the concept of purchasing digital media via the internet and having it sent to the user directly via the internet. No physical representation of this content is given but the content resides on the users hard drive and is legally owned by them.

Digital distribution method for PC games. Direct2Drive is maintained and owned by Gamefly Digital Inc.
Expanding Crosshair

A crosshair which becomes larger when the player shoots or moves which decreases accuracy, discourages shooting on the move and promotes firing in small bursts.
Explosion

A powerful release of energy. This energy is usually expelled in all directions very quickly, typically giving off orange or red flames.
Fire

In games, fire can be an obstacle, a tool, a weapon, or a solution. Just don't play with it...unless you really want to.
First-Person Perspective

First-Person is a vantage point that attempts to simulate looking through a game character's eyes. It is most commonly found in First-Person Shooters and Racing Games, and to a lesser extent in other genres, such as RPGs and 3D Platformers.

Whole levels dedicated to the industrial theme. These levels resemble factories or other industrial areas, and are often filled with conveyor belts, tesla coils and other contraptions.
Mutants

Nuclear war, frivolous dumping of toxic waste,forced evolutionary virus; sometimes these things go horribly awry. These games all feature some variety of mutant life, formerly human or otherwise, and it's generally not a good idea to trust them.
One-Man Army

A circumstance in video games where the player will defeat large numbers of enemies without any assistance from AI or other players. This may occur for part of a game or the entirety of it.
Particle System

Various effects using "particles" (billboard/sprite planes or full models).
Polygonal 3D

Who needs 2D when we've got 3D? 3D, or 3 dimensions, is what we're used to seeing in almost every game these days, letting us do all sorts of awesome stuff like run in circles!
Propaganda

Controlling the media is essential if you plan to conquer any sizeable part of the world, and if you don't control the media... your enemies will... Use propaganda to either control your own population or to influence your enemy's.
Psycho Villagers

A small closed community, with people who generally dislike foreigners. Sometimes they're inbred, sometimes they want you dead, sometimes they worship Cthulhu, and sometimes it's "all of the above".
Reloading

Reloading is the action of replacing the ammunition magazine inside a gun. It adds a touch of realism to most modern shooters, and a certain amount of tension when a player is forced to reload while under fire.
Soldier

Any person that is in an Army.
Steam

Water vaporization usually represented in video games as a particle effect.
