Zelda II: The Adventure of Link

Game » consists of 19 releases. Released Jan 14, 1987

Zelda II: The Adventure of Link is the second entry in the ground-breaking Zelda franchise. This controversial follow-up ditches the original's top-down perspective for 2D side-scrolling exploration and combat. The 2D towns, dungeons and combat arenas are tied together by a top-down overworld.

Zelda II, Now Polygonal And In First-Person.

Michael A. Johnston is a mad man. Out of his mind. Completely bananas. The man has remade the first level of Zelda II: The Adventure of Link. Only, he didn't just create more detailed versions of the original sprites. He didn't simply make a better looking version of Zelda II. He made a polygonal version of Zelda II. Except that he sometimes uses the sprites from Zelda II as textures for his 3D models. And some of the monsters are still represented as sprites when they walk around the flat overworld map, looking like they stepped out of Doom II.

Oh, and he used a first-person perspective for the game.

Dude! What are you waiting for? Go play it. Quickly! See it for yourself! Nintendo's lawyers are already on their way! They'll be closing in on Mr. Johnston any second, to shut down the game and take him to legal hell!

Only one level? I'll pass. I got my hopes up for Zelda OoT 2D, and that got shot down (or something).

How long has giantbomb been imitating http://www.insertcredit.com ?  This wouldn't even be a very good blog post, had this site been a blog.

I used to visit Giantbomb everyday for their take on news. With "news" like this I no longer bother.

That shit looks bad-ass! I'd buy that. The music is half the charm though. The industry definitely needs more games wth music like that (sorry, can't remember the technical term for it).

This is AMAZING. Thanks for the heads up. Don't listen to the haters who are, for some reason, complaining about this.

Yeah, I got my hopes up for that 2d OoT, but the guy who was making it faked his own death.

wow, and just yesterday I was thinking there needs to be remakes of some of the older Zelda games (although I was thinking about Link's awakening and the Oracle games.)

This seemed like a really fun idea but the plugin (Unity Web Player) does not run on Linux so I cant get to enjoy it.

lol, what!?  Faked his own death?  Leave it to a gamer to come up with a comic book style solution to a problem.

Yup, he faked his death. He updated his site or something posing as a friend or family member and said he died in a car accident.

It was later found out he faked it, and just didn't feel like finishing the game.

That's...not very good. Cool in concept, but it's no fun, especially in the battles.

The concept and execution seems pretty great, but I just don't think it's my cup of tea.
