Overview

The Zora are an aquatic race that live in lakes, rivers and bays in the Zelda Universe. Zora are commonly depicted with blue skin and have a humanoid form, though in the earlier games they were more fish-like and had green and orange colors. Zora are excellent swimmers and are able to breathe underwater.

Throughout the series, the Zora can be found in various aquatic locations including Lake Hylia, Zora’s Domain from Ocarina of Time, and Zora Hall from Majora’s Mask. Like the Hylian race, the Zora exist in a monarchy. In Ocarina of Time, the player is introduced to King Zora, and his daughter Princess Ruto. In Twilight Princess, Link encounters figures such as Queen Rutela and Prince Ralis. In Majora’s Mask, a Zora ruler is never mentioned, but Link encounters a popular Zora rock band on his adventures.

A very curious fact concerning the race is that in The Wind Waker – a Zelda game that takes place on a great ocean – the Zora are nowhere to be seen. The Wind Waker occurs many years after the events of Ocarina of Time, and it is hinted that the Zora evolved into bird-like creatures called Rito. Evidence to support this includes the Rito Medli, who is a successor to the Zora sage Laruto.

Abilities

In Majora's Mask, it is depicted that the Zora can emit a powerful electric shock as well as throw their fins like a boomerang. In games such as the Legend of Zelda, Adventure of Link, and A Link to the Past, in which the Zora are depicted with a more fish-like appearance, the enemy Zora spit fireballs at Link.
