1: Spore
5 most innovative games of 08'
Gears of War 2 is probably the most innovative game by introducing the groundbreaking feature of fun. What happens is, while playing the game, you actually enjoy the experience and, in turn, want to play it more.
"4: GH:WT or Rock Band 2"How are they really innovative? Sure GH:WT has the create a song feature, but that sucked, should we really count bad innovations on this list? And Rock band 2 was just an update of rock band 1.
As for my top 5, I'd have to say
1. Nothing
2. Nothing
3. Nothing
4. Nothing
5. Nothing
And that's because I haven't really played anything I'd consider really innovative yet. Spore really just seemed like a load of already existing gameplay features glued together into one game. Battlefield Bad Company innovated a little bit with the gold rush online mode, but with the step it took forward it took 2 steps back with its horrible chat system. I might be forgetting something incredibly obvious though that did innovate, but I can't think of anything.
Although having said that, I'm not including games I haven't had a decent chance to play yet, so hopefully once I get a chance to get into Banjo, Mirrors edge and endwar, I will have something to go on the list.
At the end of the day, does innovation really matter? Seriously, it's become a buzzword like 'Obey' from They Live.
Spore's use of user-created content as well as Little Big Planet deserve the top honors, me thinks. Runner-ups would be Tiger Woods All Play, Mirror's Edge, and... hmmm... de Blob, maybe?
"Making a serious list...This is a good list. I suppose End War is kind of innovative too.
LittleBigPlanet
Left4Dead
Mirror's Edge
Spore (I guess)
GTAIV"
Too Human tried a new control scheme. That is innovative. Even if it isn't popular or well executed, it can still lead to something refined (like Killswitch to Gears).
lbp
endwar (sorta)
banjo (i guess)
spore
world ends with you (dunno why just cant think of a 5th one...)
"1: SporeIn no particular order:2: Endwar3: Mirror's Edge4: GH:WT or Rock Band 2 (How??? More songs / copied formula = innovative?)5: Battlefield bad companyplz give your opinion"
We're looking for games breaking the mould. Gears 2, Fallout 3 and MGS4 tread a lot of familiar ground which is not terribly suprising because there's a number in the title and some games are built around the same engine like Fallout 3 to Oblivion.
Playing Mirror's Edge or Little Big Planet I doubt you can have a deja vu moment so in my opinion they take it.
When developers are making the games they are safe and secure with something like Gears 2 they know it will sell. LBP and Mirrors are taking a chance because it's very possibly people won't like it and it won't sell, if they do that's great for the company they took a chance and it worked. It's more often than not that you will find innovation there.
I didn't find a single game innovative in the actual sense at all this year, or in the last I don't know how many years. Not one game bought something completely new to the table, just changes things mildly maybe, some worked, some didn't. Mirrors Edge I would say, and LBP are about all that remotely did anything different I would say, even though what you can do in LBP you can do elsewhere, its just a different environment. Really, not even those 2 I think honestly innovated anything...I'm at a blank.
"Mirror's Edge
LittleBig Planet
Spore
That's pretty much it, i can't think of five"
This, but in the reverse order. I'd also add Mount&Blade, and of course I'm ignoring a legion of other small games. It's been an exceptionally good few years for the indie developers, and I think it's a trend that's going to continue to grow.
"Making a serious list...Yep. I would throw Rock Band1/2 in there instead of GTAIV, as in 2008 I think HMX has really shown us what DLC can do for a game.
LittleBigPlanet
Left4Dead
Mirror's Edge
Spore (I guess
GTAIV"
edit: I changed my mind - put Braid in there instead. I forgot about that one until the previous post. Shit yeah, that game deserves to be on there.
In no particular order:Agreed, but i would put Spore in the list.LittleBigPlanet - For it's community and creation tools.Mirror's Edge - For it''s perspective and control scheme.MGS4 - For it's story telling and scope.Far Cry 2 - For the meshing of open world gameplay and first person shooting, also for fire propagation.Left 4 Dead - For the co-op is single player is co-op play style."
