The engineer formerly known as edgework

Hey all,

I've changed my account name here on Giant Bomb to my real name "Rick" and I'm retiring the "edgework" name on Giant Bomb. My gamer tag for those of you who play with me online remains edgework but on site its now plain old Rick.

The whole "edgework sucks" thing is getting old and its time to put that to bed too. It never upset me, I actually enjoyed it but its time to move on.

@rick: Yeah, guys, I can confirm that this is truly edgework. No one but a battle-hardened JavaScript programmer knows the dangers of mixing for-loops and closures that well!

I could be completely wrong, but didn't edgework start the "edgework sucks" thing and was really the only person who ever said it?

I thought edgework sucks was a play on words somehow, as though "edge" was a type of work.

It came from the early days of the chat client when I was doing lots of public testing. If someone reported a bug I would probably say "yeah, I suck" and then people would say "edgework sucks!" and off from there. I definitely helped it along...

How come GB staff and moderators are slowly converting from their usernames to their real names? Is there some mandate or does it just make it easier for management or something?

@rikiguitarist: For me personally, it's just a writer thing. I have a book out and it makes sense that I start to drop the online alias stuff. Doubt I'll ever change the SB moniker on here entirely because it's how people know me and it's a fun name, but I gotta start thinking about the easiest ways for people who have read my stuff to find me online.

Yay. Honestly, I always found the whole running gag "Edgework Sucks" really uncomfortable. It never seemed that humorous to me. Have fun trying to deal with people in chat continuing to send messages to edgework (I know I probably still will when I forget).
