Has anyone else had the sound cut out very briefly every 5-10 seconds in Legion on Series X? I’ve tried connected to two different TVs and two sound system, tried every sound setting on the Xbox and it keeps happening. I’ve tried like a dozen other games and this doesn’t happen in any.

Edit: here’s a video of an especially bad example of this in the map screen. https://youtu.be/WtZbjm8her8

X GONNA GIVE IT TO YA!

I like how you tried out quick resume because it seems really neat (unless a game bugs out and you might need to restart it).

P.S. Codemasters also acquired the Onrush/Motorstorm studio who developed Dirt 5 Codemasters Cheshire

@haneybd87:

Not so much cutting out but more of a crackly sound. It is the only game to do so.

It also crashed so hard once that the XSX just turned off.

@teoball: Well it does make a crackling as it cuts out, sometimes more crackly than other times. Check out that video I linked in my previous post. Is that about what you’re hearing?

@teoball: Well it sucks that it’s happening to you too but it does make me feel better that it’s not a defective console.

I thought the series x and ps5 would have a nice stable 60 FPS. Wow I was wrong. It might nice with hdmi 2.1 with variable refresh rates. I guess my 2080ti really is considerably more powerful. I’m getting 60-80FPS as a bare minimum on my rig with ultra settings on these games. I thought about going full console pleb this generation. Not sure if I want to anymore

I'm loving the Series X so far, and I gotta admit, I'm even a bit surprised by the series s. Some blurry/muddy image quality every now and then from the lower resolution, but overall it seems like a great budget-conscious choice for some gamers.

Regardless of your platform of choice, wishing you all a happy and smooth launch day :D

Tetris Effect Connected's coop mode is rad as heck, but it took me a few rounds to really get it. First of all, the joined period is indeed turn based. You can see ghosts of other players so that you can sort of plan around each other - it sounds confusing, but will become really intuitive as you and your partners start hovering pieces above slots that work for the current pieces.

Second, it's kind of a balancing act. Just having a clean board isn't going to get you anywhere. You can only "attack" the bosses when joined, so you need to bank a good number of lines to send to them when you're joined. But, the boss will attack you during these "defense" periods, sending weird Tetris Battle Gaiden style attacks your way (my favorites involve shapes that are nontraditional Tetris shapes). You can get knocked out during this mode, and it puts your whole team at a huge disadvantage since you'll be sending a whole lot less junk towards the boss during the joined period.

You can revive by tapping "A" to the rhythm of a pulse that beats on your avatar. You can emote with the right stick. Purple pieces during the joined mode will knock down pieces below them filling in any holes.

I had a lot of fun with it last night, but had trouble finding a game. And then when the third player dropped after a few rounds they were replaced with an absolutely horrendous AI that I swear to god was just throwing games for us. I think I heard they were having some server overload last night, so maybe things will figure themselves out and that won't be an issue.

Well I was feeling left out on these new consoles but so many things don't look that much better or rough as hell. Seeing so much in the way of sub 60 FPS is not what I expected. Going to take a while for this gen to get into gear.

Maybe re evaluating plans to dip into consoles and just save up for that PC upgrade.

It's kind of funny to me amidst this cross-gen with just how little raytraced light-sourcing (other than Control) and medium resolution object-specific reflective raytracing is pretty much gen9 standard instead of PC's variable options with Nvidia cards (what else is new); ...while on the other hand, in games like Godfall or AC Valhalla or Dark Souls where screen-space reflection resource allocation runway given the horsepower of these new machines, now-oldschool-methods of reflection and light/bloom/ambient occlusion manipulation allows for moments it's hard to tell the difference. Checkerboarding allowed PS4 to do so much more than seemingly possible out the gate with all of Guerilla's Decima engine stuff, and crytek's software-based raytracing (crysis remastered runs on XBO with software raytraced lighting, it sucks but it's raytracing on last gen). So we're going to see a big graphical jump no matter what, ray tracing or not, which in some ways has me wondering what the 'cross-gen' window/fidelity of graphics bar is/are.

That's a testament to the power potential of the hardware, but it's also something to note about hardware alone and how raytracing is and probably will remain one of several options many studios may just opt out of all together, if they can achieve performance and effect similar enough even if the power is available, or they just simply prefer their own engine's lighting ability.

I know the idea is to take the workload of lighting and reflection texturemaps off development, but I do wonder how far down the road it will be before developers actually adopt that way of lighting their engines...I suspect a number of studios even in the long run won't and will stick to traditional lighting and SSR methods, with tricks tweaked over the last 7 years it may be worth fore-going for sake of framerate on consoles. I'd like to see more of Mr. Ray, but that's mostly due to the 2080ti buyer's remorse, and that Control is a Masterclass in how to do raytracing and nothing else has approached it yet. HERE IS HOPING!

At the one hour and forty six minute mark, Brad's audio becomes much better and understandable.

Until then, you have deal with not hearing Brad so well, and hearing everyone else at regular volume.

It's a great time to stare at the graphics option menu in a car game and, finally, FINALLY, play Tetris.

Watch Dogs would be so much better if they actually committed to the recruits having unique skills rather than mostly just being there for flavor. I know Jeff seemed really high on his construction worker being able to summon a cargo drone, but the thing is every recruit can do that - they just need to find a cargo platform to summon it from. And since you can't throw a stone without hitting one, there's no reason to look hard for people with the ability.

I'm playing Creed on PC with similar specs to Vinny. I have it locked to 60 fps with everything else turned up and it looks a lot better than the Xbox version. Nicer textures, better lighting, etc. The most noticeable to me was the snow/ground stuff. It looks muddy compared to the PC version. That said this looks totally solid on the new consoles!

Glad I'm not hte only one that was confused by the graphics options in Dirt 5! xD

I'm still really enjoying the game though. It is admittedly pretty bare bones, but it's a good, fun arcadey racer. I feel like we've been missing a racing game that strikes that balance.

Gonna say, not a huge fan of the cyber skin on Observer. It's covering up a lot of way, way more interesting set design. And taking the original off sale is not good either. Like those doors all have unique, wild-looking video doorbells, and you can hardly see them beneath the green skin. Yuck.
