Game Pass is gonna be nuts for the next few months. Glad I managed to snag a Series X.

I can't tell what is more annoying: how many times people tell me how good of a deal game pass is, how many times I hear the word in a conference like this, or how good of a value it is.

Though really I wonder what the tipping point of it in terms of pricing will be, when the price will notably go up and so on.

Very diverse line up for game pass

Would have loved to see more game play though (like SE's ridiculed presentation)

I love how in the Atomic Heart trailer, everyone has a look of bewilderment, confusion, or shock. Except Jan, who is just smiling and jamming to the music.

Is it really a surprise though? Gamepass is something unique in the gaming sphere and while it got mocked heavily in the start it has become such a powerhouse of a deal. So many games for 1 sup and the fact that MS is still supporting it after years now and even has a PC version means it makes them money as well.
it's win-win if i ever saw it.

Had chills through the entirety of the Forza Horizon 5 footage. That game looks absolutely amazing! Microsoft had a killer show this year. Between Forza and Elden Ring I couldn't be more hyped. The only kinda letdown was what was shown of Halo.

Ubisoft was bahhhh, but this was a pretty good show. And even though the Star game leaked they finished strong with Forza 5 and Red Fall, two games I now want to play badly. Halo Infinite still looks like a disappointment waiting to happen. The CGI trailer with Master Chief didn't come off well to me, and making the multiplayer free should be a good thing, but for me, its suspect. And game pass is going to force Sony to act, its really becoming a game changer for the industry as a whole. They already promised more backwards compatibility. We'll see.

party animals is significantly different than gang beasts in a few major ways. Even if it weren't, acting like two games in a similar/same genre can't exist without "getting lawyers involved" even though its partially a jest comment(clearly not entirely), is a really dumbass thing to say. Guess just about every company needs to start sending money to devs from the 80s and 90s who did the first games in their genre nowadays when they make one. Didn't think such a childish uneducated take would come from Jeff.

There was no cg shown for Halo, that was one of those in-game cut scenes - but it was likely the PC build, unless they specified Series X, which they might have.

Anyway, no one was worried about anything other than the graphics, and that really is not an issue anymore.

I think the fact that there are so many Day One releases is what blows my mind. Until this point all the major publishers were tiering their subscriptions or locking out major Day Ones entirely. But Microsoft's ability to spend and leverage is intense now.

It's even more crazy that EA Play is included... I might buy 2 guys a year now at most

Good show, many cool games.

What worries me about Gamepass, is that it might untrain people to spend money on a game they would like to purchase. I already catch myself doing this with the Epic free game program thing they're doing. Pretty much every well regarded 15-20$ indiegame eventually pops up on that thing it seems like and therefore i don't buy them as much as i did before. In the meantime, i play some of the other 150 free games i have laying around. And sure, once that title actually gets picked up by an initiative like Game Pass or Epic Free Games, i'm sure that they'll get compensated adequately. But how many games will we have all passed up on thinking that it will come to one of these services, but then never does?

I fear these gamesubscription services might become somewhat of a Spotify issue for devs, where you kinda have to be part of the system to get your stuff out there, even if the terms of the service itself are not really acceptable. It's where the people and their eyeballs are!

But the alternative is that your music, or game in this case, doesn't even appear on people's radar. Right now, it seems like these companies pay adequately, but what will that look like in the stage where the Gamepasses of the world are the dominant way to get games to people and point n click adventure number 25 releases? Would it still be feasible to put a 15$ pricetag on that game and put it on stores? Will they be offered a good deal, eventhough gamepass already has plenty of point & clickers by more prominent studio's on their service?

@onemanarmyy: It has only had the opposite effect so far. People buy the games they like that are on the service which includes many games they never would have tried otherwise. MLB the Show is selling like crazy and it's a day one game pass game, same for Outriders.

@doncabesa: Right now, it's a completely positive force for the games involved. Totally agree. I just hope that a healthy amount of people will continue to find and buy the games that don't make it to a subscription service too in the next decade and onwards. Once something like Gamepass is as ubiquitious among gamers as Netflix and Prime are, i imagine the amount of time people are looking at storefronts for new releases to buy, will diminish and people check what's included in their subscription instead. Looking at myself, i know that i would always choose a 7/10 game that i am already paying for through a subscription, instead of spending additional money to play a 8/10 game that i have to purchase on it's own.

Getting included in gamepass shouldn't become a make it or break it-moment for devs. They should ideally still be able to find a healthy customerbase on their own by selling the game for a certain price.

So in 2021, is the idea of a salesperson with a smile telling us about their amazing products and wonderful worlds to explore shpiel like, super duper grating to anyone else? I don't know why but every year I forget that video games advertising has such a reach that even before a very violent shooter, the presenter has this very Amazon bullshit vibe that I wish these companies would ditch. I understand you have to put on a show, and Phil can't do it all, and you win some you lose some, but I'll take Mr. Caffeine over the sterile shampoo or ted talky all smiles gamer thing. Devolver, don't let me down...

On another note; I am so weirdly hyped for 2042. Saw it on yt before watching this but, yeah, I for sure am ready to fall for this fan card EA is pulling.
