The announcement of Fallout 4 made me realize that I had yet to even touch Fallout 3, let alone beat it - same for New Vegas. Since it is a Bethesda game, and I have a terrible habit of getting attached to my creations in Bethesda games (see Skyrim), I decided to do the only logical thing I could think of: document my adventures in the infamous DC wasteland via journal entries. Sorry if it ends up a little long-winded, my writing tends to drag on.

I don't remember much of my childhood, and what I do recall were things I was told by the other residents of Vault 101, such as my need for glasses from an early age; the fact I was never a huge fan of having my hair long; I was quiet and overly polite; I had a crush on Freddie Gomez; I managed to lock myself in my toy chest when I was a toddler...

Information that is irrelevant now that I'm staring down the door to the outside world with blood on my bat and a heart that won't stop racing.

I woke up this morning to Amata - my childhood friend - trembling with fear and babbling about how my father had left and how Jonas was dead and that her father, the Overseer, was looking for me. I felt rage for the first time today upon learning these things; upon having more questions than answers and nobody to solve the puzzles for me this time. She offered me her pistol and I shoved it back to her chest before storming out of my room on a path to the Atrium, stopping only to listen to Butch beg for my help.

His mother was locked in their room being attacked by radroaches. Deciding that the guilt of leaving her to the pests was too much, I beat the creatures to death with the baseball bat I retrieved from my desk and left without another word after accepting Butch's Tunnel Snakes jacket. I rushed past the Clinic - paying little mind to Andy torching the roaches that had killed Officer Gomez - and burst into the Atrium only to be halted by Tom and Mary Holden running towards the exit before being gunned down by Officers Richards and O'Brian.

My legs began shaking as I made a mad dash through the room and under a door that was conveniently jammed by a locker; sprinting up the staircase in front of me then through the only open door I could find, I was startled by a swing from Paul Hannon Sr - the Security Chief. It only stung where he managed to hit - but it was enough to spark a fire in me. I beat him down to the ground before making my way past the Mack family window, apparently giving Allen a look cold enough to make him trail off mid-rant and stop banging on the glass.

Not long after, I found Amata, Stevie Mack and the Overseer in a room - although I didn't hear what their conversation was. Bloodlust took over, and I burst into the room before dispatching the officer as well as the Overseer, leaving Amata understandably distraught. But fuck her, if she wants to defend that man, she can waste her tears elsewhere - I don't want to hear it. I retrieved the Overseer's keys to his mysterious tunnel and descended into the dark; eager to leave more than ever. Officers Park and Wolfe attempted one last time to stop my exit, but they were soon beaten down like the others. I bid Amata a bitter goodbye as she stared in awe at the Vault's exit - amazed, almost frightened that I actually opened it - and then left.

I've steeled myself in this tunnel long enough, though. It's time for me to leave. Today has been one hell of a day.

I opened it. The world is big, bleak, desolate. And yet, despite all of the death I can see on the horizon, it's surprisingly beautiful.

Nice! I've just started playing as well. Played it a little bit many years ago but left it for some reason. This time, I chose between F3 and New Vegas but eventually went with F3. Love the wasteland.
