A quick look of this was scheduled for today but its now its gone. Was this pushed back for some reason maybe?
A Hat in Time
Game » consists of 6 releases. Released Oct 05, 2017
A third-person 3D platformer developed by Jonas Kaerlev along with his team at Gears For Breakfast.
Quick Look?
If its scheduled, it should be there since its not full. There may be technical problems or the backend fucked up again like with previous Yakuza episodes
Or its because of Dan.
@glots: Did they not remove his voice? Or was that for another game?
@chaser324: Ah ok. Wonder why they haven't addressed it, doesn't seem like a particularly good look to just sweep it under the rug but whatever.
I mean, he has a grand total of 2 lines of dialogue and they're not important in any way. There is also the issue of commenting potentially making it worse in some way and they're already a small team, so catching extra heat (from either side) would be pretty bad.
There's also the part where at least one developer of that small team is apparently kind of a douche, doxing a former colleague in the past and writing hurtful stuff about them.
But as for the QL, I'm sure it's just some glitch, the drama around this release is so small compared to some other things that for GB to pick this as the fight they want to have would be real weird.
@vierastalo: Honestly, I knew MaxofS2D when he was a moderator on Facepunch. It went both ways, not just one way.
It's a little early to assume they pulled the plug. There could have been a glitch, it could have been rescheduled, etc, etc. Besides, I doubt they would get as far as recording and scheduling it without hearing about some of this stuff.
I hope it’s just a glitch because it would be a pretty big bummer if they canceled a whole quick look because of some nasty outside factors. I mean they played Kerbal a few weeks ago knowing full well the awful labor practices that company enforced.
I think this game looks real neat and I was looking forward to see what the crew had to say.

Vinny did at the very least acknowledge those issues in that stream though. Perhaps they didn't realize there was any controversy around A Hat in Time prior to recording the QL and decided not to run it because they didn't address it.
Of course, it's also possible that there were just technical issues. Those do happen from time to time.
Regardless of the cause, if this doesn't resurface, it wouldn't be the first or last lost Quick Look.

They have the notes section under the videos though that they have used before to address stuff they forgot or didn`t know about during the recording, so it seems weird to pull the video for that reason.
They have also done quick looks of games like Postal 3 and Hatred which seem much worse than the controversy surrounding A Hat in time. I haven`t been following it closely, but it seems like the main controversy around that game is the JonTron stuff which while not great seems like a fairly minor thing in that game. It just seems like a really weird place to draw the line if they have actually pulled the plug on the quick look because of the controversy surrounding the game.
@odinsmana: Both QL's for Postal 3 and Hatred came across as more of a caution to not buy them though. I mean all they did was make fun and shit on those games, for good reasons I might add. But then there is also the difference of those games featuring and glorifying mass shooting type of violence versus A Hat in Time which features voice acting from a person who may or may not support racist ideals but at the very least has said some pretty fucked up stuff.
EDIT: I guess there was some controversy with one of the developers behind Hatred being a national socialist or something also.
@boonsong: You`re right that it`s not necessarily quite the same thing with Postal and Hatred, but they have also done videos of stuff with behind the scenes controversy in the past. They have for example both long ago and not too long ago done videos with Shadow Complex which had connections to Orison Scott Card who has some less than stellar views on homosexuality or L. A Noire that was made with some pretty horrible working practices. Of course people change over time, so maybe they just have less tolerance for any kind of stuff like this these days. The thing that is weird for me though is that while I have not played A Hat in Time my understanding is that JonTron has a very minor role in that game. More like a easter egg than a major character and while the developers should maybe have removed him from the game it seems like kind of an extreme response to pull the plug on a finished quick look because of it.
If they did remove the Quick look because of the controversy I would like to hear their thoughts on it and I hope it won`t be the case that it has just been silently removed and that they will never mention it.
@odinsmana: Fair. Perhaps they feared some of the potential backlash they would get for doing a positive QL of the game? I'm pretty sure that's not the case though and I agree with you that it would make more sense for this to just be a technical issue or it was delayed for some other reason.

Not commenting at all makes it considerably worse if you ask me than commenting. Not to mention it's really really dang easy to condemn to vile and radioactive stuff Jontron said (and more importantly lack of remorse afterward. Say what you will about Pewdiepie but at least he understands he needs to at least appear to be sorry). It's not like this was some one off with Jontron, dude went on for two hours, quite passionately too. What do you a think giant corp would do? You better believe they would disown that shit instantly. And Giant corps are about the most risk averse people out there.
By not commenting everybody gets to fill in the blanks about what the HiT devs really think and the press gets to have a field day going to town on them. As best as I can tell, They don't think Jontron's beliefs are a problem. Which makes their products an instant no purchase for me. I'm sure I'm not alone. It's too bad, the game looks pretty good.
There isn't a way out of this that doesn't draw criticism for them and while I don't envy them drawing static from racists, is it really that hard to know which side you want to be on?
This isn't a both sides issue, it's a basic right or wrong thing. Business wise and morally.
@slag: I totally agree. There's a highly undesirable narrative and fanbase that's organically formed around this game due in large part to the developer's decision to say nothing. We can't know for certain what the personal opinions are of everyone on the dev team, but choosing to say nothing ends up looking like tacit endorsement whether they like it or not. The desire to stay apolitical often has the exact opposite effect, and I think that's what we're seeing with this situation.
This looks like a lovely little platformer, but I absolutely can't support it at this time.
I would hope it is just a technical or scheduling error.
If they nixed the QL because of some controversy or moral stance, they should come out with a statement saying so. Giant Bomb didn't refuse to post Codename: Steam material, despite the main character of that game being voiced by Adam Baldwin. I doubt JonTron's cameo would be enough to completely shut down coverage of this game, and I am sure many other games have had a controversial team member. If the folks at Giant Bomb feel there is some sort of moral reason they cannot post this QL I think they would comment on that, not just leave it hanging.
So until proven otherwise I am assuming the QL exploded when they tried to upload it, or Dan covered his mic in Nacho Cheese and it was unusable.
I had absolutely no idea who this Jon Tron person was before making this thread, I was just confused as to why it was on the schedule than removed.
It sucks that there are people who have viewpoints like this, it’s despicable. After watching a little bit of what this game is about I never got any feeling that this game would even hint at having any sort of awful political agenda.
It just stinks that this game now has a stigma that will always stick around because of some loser who apparently has a super small voice acting part said some awful shit on You Tube
It's not just about Jon Tron. People keep glossing over the accusations brought against the devs being shitty people. Nobody has really looked into it too far for one reason or another, so I guess I can understand hesitating on showcasing something in case the situation turns out to be just as bad as people think it is.

And you are right, it doesn't hint at that at all. People are really overthinking this. JonTron has a tiny tiny bit in the game, two lines or something, which I haven't even heard so far. I think. I heard he was a penguin, and I am past that as far as I know, so who knows. And who cares. Yes, he has turned out to be a piece of human garbage, but if we stopped consuming content where human garbage has had a hand in it in one way or another we would probably not be able to consume that much content. They probably couldn't remove his lines because of some contract, and that is probably also why the studio can't say anything about it.
The game is fun, and worth playing if you like games like Super Mario 64 (and, ugh, Sunshine) and Banjo Kazooie. Hope the QL is up someday, as it would be fun to see what Dan Ryckert thinks.
Wellp, all things considered I honestly would understand if they decided against doing the QL entirely. I know I personally am requesting a refund just based on what I've learned here. I understand people might find these issues varying degrees of important but they're important to me and I see why they could be to GB.
@mindbullet: Haven't heard anything about the devs except what was said in this thread. I mean, I wouldn't be surprised though, they are Danes after all.
I joke.

I'm in the same ballpark of head space as you. While JonTron and one of the devs have done/said some toxic stuff, I'm of the opinion that at some point there needs to be drawn a line between art and artist. There's a justified reason for feeling ill about things surrounding A Hat in Time, but it's also a great game. Even if the lead guy shouldn't be supported in one's eyes, there are a bunch of other devs on that team that probably should. It doesn't make the hard work they all put in invalid, just because there's toxicity in the past. That said, I also don't think the Yooka-Laylee team is in the wrong for pulling the JonTron lines.
@nobel: Ah I see. Are the other rumors about the lead developer anything major? Because a personal feud between two people is not that concerning to me, even though doxxing and harassment was involved I don't really care that much especially when there is the issue with JonTron.
@boonsong: The beef between Mecha and Max is the only thing that I am aware of outside of Jon. I was there for the Mecha and Max thing, both of them did some pretty shitty things, albeit Mecha started it. General consensus on Facepunch (where all this drama happened really) was that both of them were assholes about it and were trying to bait the community into taking hard sides or ELSE; Mecha edged out Max in terms of being an asshole by Doxxing Max; It pretty much went silent after Mecha was banned. Mind you, this was in 2011 so most if not all the posts on the forum are gone due to cleaning of the boards.
The games garbage. Thank god no quick look.
I don't usually watch quicklooks only for the best games, but maybe I'm in the minority?
If it was nixed because of any controversy I'm not upset either way. That's totally up to them as to what games they cover. Regardless of whatever is going on behind the scenes, I'd still like to know if the game is any fun though. I'm not about to start vetting the people behind every piece of media I consume. No shade to anyone that does though. We all have to make our own decision on what/who we choose to support or whether or not we care in the first place.
I'm about to have the game 100%'d. If you are a fan of SM64 or Sunshine, you'd probably like it. I might end up throwing up a review if they don't do a QL.
After reading the drama from MaxofS2D, it has kinda killed my interest in the game. Outside of the Jontron stuff (let's face fact, he is a moron) I was willing to give the game a shot because his voice doesn't bother me. His opinions certainly do. But as long as his political opinions are not represented in the game, I can just ignore it.
But having Mecha still screw different artists after doing the same thing to Max is just dirty.
Shame, no clue this was a dicey subject. To me, art and artist are separate (as long as they aren't like killing babies to make the next metal gear game). Game is getting great word of mouth and I really want to see GBs take on the game before i decide anything. Bloody shame
Even outside of the idea of separating the art from the artist, more then enough information is coming out that said asshole artist also just straight up stole a solid chunk of the art for the game.
In which case you aren't even separating the art from the artist. You are encouraging and supporting theft.

Well if that's the case, then I totally understand. I had heard a different reason but it was from a friend who it seems was mistaken. Still a damn shame, game is suppose to be awesome.
Wow, and I first thought this was an innocuous and cute platformer. Oh well. Odyssey isn't that far off at all.
I've heard good things about this game, and after being lukewarm on most of Yooka Laylee I was totally down for a better "one of those." Buuuut... yeah, I'm not a big fan of developers who screw people out of their work. I might eventually get it for dirt cheap or something, but I don't feel great about supporting someone with those sorts of accusations lobbed at them.
I don't know how much of the accusations are true (seems like some of it atleast? A journalist should do some legwork, clear this up), but it's a very good game for what it's worth. It's like Psychonauts in terms of the amount of writing/humor only using Mario 64's structure. Very distinct from the forthcoming Odyssey since it's very linear and very humor focused.
If yall uncomfortable paying the company with the uncertainty around this maybe consider waiting for it to be in a Humble Bundle and giving all the money to the charity.
