    Oddysee and Exoddus

Abe is the most well known hero of the Oddworld series. His first appearance is in the game Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee, in which he uncovers the evil plans of his employers at the fictional company Rupture Farms. Abe learns that the company executives, the Glukkons, plan on slaughtering Abe's species in order to make their latest snack food named Mudokon Pops. Over the course of the game the player must decide whether Abe will help rescue his fellow Mudokons or if he will be selfish and take the fastest route possible out of Rupture Farms. Depending on the player's actions the game can end in two different ways, if Abe is selfless and rescues enough Mudokons he makes it out safely and is haled as the hero of his race if he is not then he is stranded at Rupture Farms and left to die.

The fate of the Mudokon race lies in Abe's hands.

Abe returns in a sequel to Abe's Odyssey titled Abe's Exoddus. Exoddus is significantly longer, so much so that it spills over onto two discs. The game play remains the same but the many additional features were added to the game including a "QuikSave" feature which allows players to make their own checkpoints at any place in the game. The game also introduced new and more difficult enemies. Abe's role in the game remains pretty much the same however;he must infiltrate Soul Storm Brewery and find and save as many Mudokons as possible or else face a not so pleasant end. If Abe rescues enough of his people the player views a cut scene where Abe narrowly escapes an exploding Soul Storm Brewery and is reunited with his rescued Mudokons, then he and all of his friends pledge to continue the search for more of their brethren that remain enslaved by the Glukkons. However, if Abe fails to save enough of his comrades, his friends betray him and leave him stranded at Soul Storm where he is brutally tortured and killed by the Glukkon research team.

Abe is a pacifist and never engages in hand to hand combat with his enemies. His preferred method of overcoming his various foes is by utilizing his ability to chant. Whenever Abe sees a trapped enemy he has the ability to chant for a few seconds and possess the foe. While in possession of his enemy Abe can use him for anything, including opening security locks, using weapons, and raising alarms. Abe can also take possession of Glukkons and use them to boss around their henchmen Sligs. Besides chanting Abe's only other defense against Sligs, Glukkons, and various Oddworld wildlife is his agility and athleticism. Abe is a master of using his environment and is very good at jumping to unseen ledges and creeping in shadows to avoid being seen.

    • In Abe's Exoddus if Abe drinks SoulStorm brew he can posses his own farts and cause them to explode on enemies and chant suppressors.
    • A secret cutscene plays at the end of Abe's Exodus if he rescues every Mudokon in the game, the cut scene revealed that the third game in the series would star Munch and would make its debut on the Playstation 2 (which later switched to the Xbox).
    • The planet that the games take place on is called Oddworld, the continent where Abe lives is called Mudos.
    • Abe has a small cameo in Stranger's Wrath. He is seen on the back of a milk carton.
    • Abe is an unlockable character in Mutant Mudds Super Challenge.
