Simply question really. Do you ever judge another gamer by how high their gamerscore is?
Achievements
Concept »
Achievements are extra challenges added into video games that sometimes carry a point value or unlock bonus material, and are sometimes solely for bragging rights.
Do you judge a gamer by their score?
I usually don't, though I tend to be impressed by gamers with significantly higher gamerscores than myself.
To a certain degree. i.e. if they've got a monstrous number (e.g. around 100,000 or more) I'll judge that they either play video games for a living OR have absolutely no life. Beyond that, no I don't judge. Plenty of people have reasonably high gamerscores can are all "HALO RULEZZZZZZZZ!!!!!!!1111oneoneone" and know absolutely nothing about video games beyond headshots & "pwnzing". Similarly someone could have a low gamerscore (or even 0 if they don't own a 360) and know tonnes about video games & their history, gameplay mechanics etc.
" I don't usually judge gamers. Or call them "gamers" for that matter. "This. Well said
" That's so silly. It's like respecting (or not) somebodys opinion based on their postcount/avatar on a forum. But about that gamerscore, I haven't really noticed anybodys gamerscore. I'm not really playing a lot online on my 360/PS3/Wii/Steam/whatever anyway. :P "coming from someone with both a low gamerscore, and low post count
I kid, I kid
I like to give my friends shit if I find out they ONLY beat a game on easy - but would never do that to a stranger and it's 100% in a joke way.
" To a certain degree. i.e. if they've got a monstrous number (e.g. around 100,000 or more) I'll judge that they either play video games for a living OR have absolutely no life.I'm curious, what qualifies as having a life?
No, due to how I earn my score... I'd find it hard to judge someone fairly. I got 25,000 by basically buying shitty used games stacks at a time, getting the first 100-200 points and never touching it again.
I do use it to judge overall nerdiness. Not gaming prowess, but maybe it gives information on just sheer devotion to such things.
Also if I see a person who's online playing games all the time, but has a low score, it tells me that they devote themselves to one game. All the top dudes in COD and all that seem to have pretty low scores. No time to play anything else, I guess.
Sometimes I'll catch myself doing it almost subconsciously, but really, all gamerscore shows is how much time they spend playing games. I have a friend who has a high gamerscore and has some really difficult achievements, but any game I've ever played with him I stomp him. The closest he's ever come to beating me in any game was 11 to 25 in Halo 3. But because all he does is sit in his room every day and play games, he'll try at a game for 8 hours to get one achievement. It's pretty lame really.
I may get a feel for their gaming habits looking into the score (Do they go for full completion on all the games they play, do they just play the game and disregard achievements, are there certain games they're committed to and certain games they're not, are they new to Live? etc.), but that's about it.

I play games all the time, but I almost never go out of my way for achievements, except when it came to Assassin's Creed 2. Hence my Gamer score is only about 6,000... pretty weak. When I see someone with a higher gamer score I usually think, "Man, they must really like getting achievements," that's about it.

only time i think one way or the other about anyones trophy amount or gamerscore is when i notice they are a whore about it. then i go on to notice they went and fully completed games like terminator salvation just to have that extra platinum to boost thier number...yet only have one trophy for demon souls because a friend who platinum'd it walked em through the first level on skype. HAH you know who u are. (In other words i only care about friend's game numbers and give em shit for it when i get the chance)
I have a couple friends that judge me, well mostly just 1, but he can be a douche bag and doesn't play PC, DS, or PSP games hardcore like me (and mostly RPG's).
Heck, also, you know how much my GamerScore increased with my massive amount of hours spent on Disgaea 3 and Valkyria Chronicles on PS3? That's right, a big fat 0 Achievements, even though I felt like I should have got 2,000 per game :p
I'm just all like, "Great you got a 1,000 in Madden, Avatar, and some random NBA/NHL games... you're pretty awesome dude!"
You need at least 100,000 achievement points in Outside. There are a lot of guides for it as well - The Bible, Gita, Quran etc etc. but you don't really need any to be awesome at it." @MattyFTM said:

Somebody may only have 1000 gs but that person only plays one game and he's amazing at it. He might of even logged days, week, or even months of gameplay into that single game. Maybe he plays that one game all day, all night long. Should you judge him on not being a "skilled" gamer on his low GS? On the flip side, should you assume he "has a life" based on his low GS?
Now take somebody who has a pretty hefty gamerscore. Maybe he rents a lot of games from gamefly. He doesn't farm out 1k GS in every game but he rents a lot so his score starts to accumulate pretty high. Maybe this person only plays for about a half and hour to a hour a night and doesn't really master any one game. Should you judge him and assume he is a "skilled" player based on his high GS? On the flip side again, should you assume he has no life because of his high GS?
I don't perfectly fit either archetype and neither do most of you. The point is judging somebody on something like gamerscore is pretty damn foolish no matter how you slice it.
