The toppest tennest most popular achievement sets for the past seven days lies just below this paragraph of text! Can you stand it? Can you possibly hold out any longer? OK, fine, I'll just spoil it, then. Halo 3: ODST is in the lead again. If we total out the last 30 days, though, Beatles is our most popular achievement page.

Saw enters the charts at #10.

    Top Ten Sets

    1. Halo 3: ODST
    2. The Beatles: Rock Band
    3. Batman: Arkham Asylum
    4. Madden NFL 10
    5. Band Hero
    6. Brutal Legend
    7. Borderlands
    8. Garry's Mod
    9. Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2
    10. Saw

...Saw? Guess people are getting ready for next week's games by scoping out some early achievements. Speaking of which, we've got a batch of new stuff in the system. The highlight has to be Dragon Age: Origins.

It must be hard to figure out achievements that make sense when you're dealing with a big RPG. I thought Oblivion handled it really well by tying so many of its points to the game's well-defined side-quests. But... well, I think we all know that Dragon Age is going to be a game you'll want to play on a PC, if possible. Even the latent points bug that still creeps around in my head knows better than to demand that I play it on a 360.

The individual list is straight-up boringsville this week. All ODST, all day, all night, with two notable exceptions.

    Top Ten Individual

    1. Halo 3: ODST - Naughty Naughty
    2. Halo 3: ODST - Super Sleuth
    3. Halo 3: ODST - Audiophile
    4. Batman: Arkham Asylum - World's Greatest Detective
    5. Garry's Mod - Secret Phrase
    6. Halo 3: ODST - Good Samaritan
    7. Halo 3: ODST - Be Like Marty
    8. Halo 3: ODST - Vidmaster Challenge: Deja Vu
    9. Halo 3: ODST - Campaign Complete: Legendary
    10. Halo 3: ODST - Vidmaster Challenge: Classic

ODST makes up most of the 11-20 list, too. It's pretty wild. Oh, hey, here's one of our back-end charts that shows the number of Halo 3: ODST achievements fed into our system every day. I thought it was kind of interesting.

You guys unlocked a lot of ODST achievements on launch day.
You guys unlocked a lot of ODST achievements on launch day.
Yeah, we received around 24,150 ODST achievements on its launch day, but it's been dropping off quickly, probably because everyone's finishing the game and moving on to Firefight or, perhaps, the multiplayer disc. Halo 3 achievements went up 10X on launch day and haven't dropped off quite as much as ODST has. Still, with the way that graph looks, I have to imagine that ODST will start dropping down the charts over the next week or two to make way for the big Q4 releases. Speaking of which, we totally entered Q4 this week.

Do you think Modern Warfare 2 will spike that graph as severely? Considering it apparently doesn't have any achievements for its multiplayer mode (which is probably for the best), I don't know that it will.

Work on PlayStation 3 support continues on. Yesterday Andy showed me my PSN account, pulled into our system, and showing my actual trophy data. Since trophies don't have raw points numbers associated with them, we're going to have to make a few changes to the system to implement them, but it looks like it's coming along.

Also, this weekend is the Pacific Pinball Expo. So I am going to spend Saturday and Sunday in a dark-ass room full of pinball machines. I am very excited about this. Carry on!

Man...that ODST drop scares me.  I'm kinda partial to muh hairz!  lol

Nonetheless...the Saw achievement is a bit screwy.  Might wanna check that out.  Had a bunch of crazy characters at the top...

I doubt Modern Warfare 2 will have as significant a spike, because most of the people that buy the game will likely play multiplayer more than single player.

I'm really liking the Dragon Age achievements...they seem like they're well spread out across the game.  I hate to say it, but good achievements make me even more excited for that game.

Yeah I don't think I've touched ODST for about a week now.  As soon as I passed the campaign I just didn't really care about going back to get the things I missed.

@ObsideonDarman: The game is in our system, but Microsoft has them set to private, so they won't show up until they're made public on xbox.com. That probably won't happen until launch day. If you view the achievements from an Xbox 360, they'll show up as normal. So you'll have to find someone who's already playing it and view their list on the console if you want to see them early.

I wanna play pinball! There are 5 really broken tables at a nearby arcade...I think I will have to check out Dave and Buster's soon to see if they have any.  I will have to console myself this weekend with my local boardgaming club's annual event. And now...I am totally thinking about how a Settlers of Catan pinball game could work... :)

I think MW2 might see a huge spike simply because of how many folks will be playing it.

A question: How are Brutal Legend and Borderlands in the top ten overall lists when, according to their achievement pages, Brutal Legend only has 2 players (only one of which has gotten any achievements) and Borderlands has none? Sorry if anyone else has already pointed this out. It just confuses me.

@iplaygames: Because the list isn't based on number of achievements unlocked, it's based on traffic to those pages.

    Trophies cool.

Question for anyone who finds this relevant: If you use multiple PC Digital Distribution services alongside Steam (like Stardock's Impulse, D2D, etc.) do you forgo the others if the Steam version has achievements, and would you get the GFW version instead if that's available?
I usually spread it around and get the cheapest version myself, I'm just curious how other people choose which version to get.

@Snapstacle: You mean Games for Windows LIVE? If a game has that, it will be in all versions. There are games with GFW Live support on Steam right now. So if there was a game with both Live achievements and Steam achievements, I'd definitely go with the Steam version to get all the achievements twice. :) Unfortunately there aren't any games with both yet.

And usually I'd buy a retail version of a game unless Steam is offering it for a significant discount, or provides achievements in the Steam version.

This edit will also create new pages on Giant Bomb for:
