I was considering getting into this game when I noticed that they suggest having a CPU speed of 3 ghz. My compy (which I freely admit needs an upgrade) only goes up to 1.60 ghz. Will I be able to get AoC to run (albeit crappily) on my system, or should I buy a new processor/wait for the 360 version?

1.60 is way to slow to run this game.  Even if you have good ram and a good video card your pc will bottleneck with how slow your processor is.

Erm, is 1.60 a Dual Core?

Unless your computer is old as hell, I don't know how you have a processor that slow.

I forgot to mention, yeah it's a dual core. Also, I inadvertently found  www.canyourunit.com, which informs me that my set-up fails miserably in other aspects. Looks like it's time to go upgrade shopping.

I don't think 1.6ghz is going to be enough to get enjoyable experience from the game.

CPU speed is the most important part of your comp.
without the processor making sense of what the graphics card is saying the game wont run.
buy a new comp and forget about upgrading

Your words are wise, green baby. I will most likely buy a new system and just transfer my current hard drives. Thank you for your advice, strangers on the Internet.

I very much doubt the game will run very well or at all on that processor.

Generally, faster CPU speed means better performance, but it can also be misleading. CPU speed is only useful for comparing similar chips. For example, a 2.0 GHz Core 2 duo will destroy a Pentium 4 at 3GHz.

If it's not dual core, expect no more than 10fps even if you have 4gb of RAM and an ATI HD 4850 card.

You need to multiply your GHz by 2 since it's a dual core.

Not necessarily. This only works with a perfectly balanced multithreaded game. If a game runs as a single thread that requires a certain speed to work properly, it cannot magically split the thread to work on both cores at once. This is why you see a lot of programs max out at 50% CPU utilization on dual cores, or 25% on quad-cores.
