    One of the best-selling real time strategy franchises returns with Age of Empires Online, Microsoft's first title to utilize a free-to-play model. The game is no longer playable, as its servers were shut down in July 2014.

    They just put out a laughably non violent Age of Empires cinematic.

    And its reminded me of all the old Age of Empire CGI cinematics, that blew my mind back when I first played those games as a kid. They were so epic, so action packed. Since then every RTS game ever has had some sort of similar opening sequence, but the Age of Empires intro was the first to stick in my mind.

    Age of The Kings did not disappoint either, (The chess game, its a metaphor!!!)

    But by Age of Empires 3, the style of opening that I had loved so much in the previous games, sorta lost its luster, watching two armies rush at eachother, screaming just didn't have the same thrill it once did. Then again the whole game sorta lost something with 3.

    I can't be the only one who remembers first seeing these and loving them?

    @Mikemcn:
    I agree about 3, It was ok, but yeah, AoE II was so fucking good that 3 would've had to be amazing to be just as good as it, but I don't think it even reached AoE II

    Also, The Chess game intro, THE best intro,

    ever.

    I liked 3. They finally mixed up the gameplay a bit. As fun as walling your city off, leaving an opening on purpose, and surrounding the opening with archer towers is, at some point you get tired.
    I enjoyed Age of Mythology way more, waaaay more, than Warcraft 3. And its a bummer they never made a sequel.

    The only memory i have is crying in pain as i try to make any progress or success but end up getting fucked and annihilated by advanced enemy armies as soon as i build a couple of houses.

    Goddamn right. AoM was (and still is, really) the only RTS I ever got obsessively into.

    Age of Mythology is the best Ensemble ever made.
