These grown-up Little Sisters appear in BioShock 2.
Most sinister beings. They burrow themselves inside their human victims, effectively taking over the body.
Climbing is a common tradition in games, particularly platformers. There is often a particular type of surface that can be climbed, and it has a recognizably different look than other surfaces in the game. Climbing ladders or stairs doesn't count.
The most common enemy in Killing Floor, clots are failed clones of the dead son of the mad scientist whose grief started the nightmare in the first place.
The weakest and most agile of the specimens in Killing Floor.
Demons are generally creatures of evil, usually from Hell, who are often totally untrustworthy even when they're not murdering everyone and destroying everything in their path.
Ghouls are carrion eating undead creatures that dwell in graveyards and other lonely places. The stench of death surrounds these vile abominations wherever they go. Some Ghouls have been known to paralyse their victims with their manky claws.
Spider-like parasitic animals from an unknown universe with amazing powers of genetic transformation. Introduced in the original Half-Life, headcrabs come in several varieties, all of which are incredibly dangerous to unsuspecting or unprepared humans.
Whether a character never ages or is invincible, immortality represents the inability to die. Sometimes this is a blessing, sometimes it is a curse. Either way it usually makes for an interesting game mechanic.
A method of attempting to scare the player by the sudden unexpected occurrence of an event - often accompanied by some sort of audio sting.
When the player/enemy leap towards the enemy/player, effectively dealing damage in the same turn.
Genetically evolved humans, animals or aliens.
Necromorphs are the enemies in the Dead Space franchise. The Necromorph infection uses deceased bodies as hosts and forms hideously mutated shapes to adapt to more effective killing styles. Originally encountered on deep-space mining colony Aegis VII, it is believed that the infection originated from the Red Marker.
Enemies that are adamant in their will to hunt you down. Example: Pac-Man ghosts.
Simulating the effects of a great variety of poisons, toxins, venoms and nerve agents can lead to many unique and interesting mechanics. A classic trope in games, Poison usually deals small amounts of damage to health over time.
The Scorn are an army of undead Fallen in the Destiny universe.
The assassins of the darkspawn, Shrieks are known for their long, jagged blades attached to their forearms and for the ear-splitting cries they emit in battle.
An acrobatic feat in which the feet roll over the head and return.
Strength beyond normal human bounds, i.e. lifting cars, bending metals, shattering a street with one's fist.
Enemies that are small, deal relatively low damage, and have low health, but make up for it by attacking in large numbers. Examples include Flood infection forms from Halo, Trites from Doom 3, or Crawlers from Resistance: Fall of Man.
A zombie type from Dead Island.
The staple enemies of Alan Wake. These once were villagers of Bright Falls, but now they are merely puppets of the darkness.
Mutated mammals with incredible speed and strength, the result of genetic modification experiments.
The Undead is an umbrella term describing creatures that do not exhibit the key fundamental attributes that are associated with life, such as respiration, and blood circulation. They are divided into two main categories: Ethereal and Corporeal, depending on whether or not they have a body.
When a populated area is overrun by legions of the undead. They are often accompanied by demons or parasitic lifeforms.
Zombies, more accurately called the walking dead, are reanimated corpses who feed on the living, and have become a ubiquitous video game enemy. They often move slowly, but can be deadly in large numbers, which is unfortunately how they tend to travel. Shotgun time!
