British occultist who founded the religious order of Thelema, a broad philosophy based largely on "sexual magic" and loose interpretations of Egyptian myth. He was a controversial figure in his period for his frank use of sexual terminology, and his writings on magic remain influential to this day.
The twenty-ninth demon of the Goetia.
The demon of sloth in Christian tradition. He was famously sent to the mortal world by Lucifer on rumors that humans experienced bliss in marriage; however, he proved it false.
Character in Shin Megami Tensei II. A rival to Aleph, Daleth proclaims himself the true messiah of Tokyo Millennium.
A name of YHVH seen frequently in the Hebrew Bible, mostly commonly translated simply as "God." The word shares a common etymology with the Semitic noun "El," which also means "god."
Character in Shin Megami Tensei II. Gimmel is the overseer of Arcadia, a lush district of Tokyo Millennium free of demons.
A nine-headed dragon deity appearing in various sects of Japanese folklore. He is thought to be derived from Ananta Shesha, a serpentine god of Hindu mythology.
Mara is the evil demon who tried to tempt Gautama Buddha out of reaching enlightenment. In the Shin Megami Tensei series she is infamous for her cockeyed appearance.
The self-imposed name of British occultist Aleister Crowley. It is taken from the Greek phrase 'To Mega Therion' in the Book of Revelation and means 'The Great Beast.'
A figure seen in alchemy with multiple heads representing solar and lunar bodies. Seen as a whole, it represents the element Mercury.
Archangel whose name means "God heals." He is credited with binding the demon Azazel in Jewish apocryphal texts.
Gladiator and early rival to Aleph in Shin Megami Tensei II. Through victory in the arena, he aspires to be a free citizen of Tokyo Millennium's Center.
An epithet of YHVH meaning "hosts", referring to his role as the Lord of the hosts of angels in heaven. It is also romanized as Tzevaot.
An epithet of YHVH with multiple suggested and conjectured meanings. It is commonly seen as El Shaddai, which is traditionally translated as "God Almighty."
An archangel whose name means "God is my Light." Though not appearing in Jewish or Christian canonical texts, he is considered one of the seven highest Archangels.
YHVH is an evil version of the monotheistic God of Judaeo-Christian religion, whose true name is YHWH. His merciless portrayal in Shin Megami Tensei is based on events in the Jewish Torah (Old Testament) and beyond where God either kills humans, such as the great flood, or expresses disappointment in having created mankind.
Character in Shin Megami Tensei II. A member of the Temple Knights, Zayin ruthlessly upholds the laws of Tokyo Millennium--and God.
