The ongoing saga of Aliens: Colonial Marines had mostly gone dormant in the last month or so, following weeks of post-release grousing about its miserable quality and the ludicrous development history that got it there. However, there was one last, dangling little detail left uncertain. Specifically, the Wii U version, which was reportedly still in development at TimeGate Studios. It was supposed to come out prior to the end of March, but then it just kind of didn't. Now we know why.

According to Kotaku, Sega has confirmed that development on the Wii U version has ceased altogether. This follows the game's removal from listings on several European retailers' websites.

It's a lame, but perhaps fitting final note for a game that seemed to disappoint pretty much everyone. At one time, Gearbox was touting the Wii U version as the best looking of the bunch. Now, we're essentially being told that staring into the cold, empty void of nothingness is a preferable outcome to that of playing more Aliens: Colonial Marines. Yeah, I'd say that sounds about right.

Good. The other versions are trash, and the Wii U version would've been trash, with apparently even more issues going by what has already been said about it.

The game wasn't as bad as made out to be. Yes it was poor, tired, rehash of cliched gameplay, devoid of any real challenge. But with a friend(s), it was mildly passable. Not necessarily offensive.

One day someone will realize that a good Aliens game can't just be a generic shooter and make an interesting one. One day. Maybe. But probably not.

I could go for an X-Com style turn based game set in an alien Universe with more event based maps instead of big square rooms. Would make the permadeath/small squad thing work out well too. Like from the get go you get a set number of people sent in to explore a space station and you gotta send people out to uncover the secret to how it all happened/survive until the escape ship comes and you get no re enforcements at all. Make it a research base so that you have an excuse to find unlocks and upgrades as you go along. Throw in some soldiers that come pre-ranked up and a bunch of rookies. If all of your people die it's game over. Man.

So they lost the revenue from the like 6 copies of this game they would have sold and now they don't have to deal with people talking about how shitty it is again when it came out on another console. Sounds like the right choice to me.

A polished turd is still a turd, Ive no doubt that the WiiU version would have looked the best but its still an abysmal mess of a game. It makes sense that Sega dont release it, they would end up just loosing money since everyone already knows to stay clear of it.

I bet this is wonderful news for Wii U owners. Now no matter what argument 360 or PS3 players swing at Wii U people, they can always respond with pride, that their system doesn´t have fucking Colon Marines.

I think the implication wasn't the WiiU version sucked so bad it wasn't fit for release but that nobody is going to buy an inherently shitty game on a system that nobody wants.

I mean, yeah, I get that this is a story about Alien Colonial Marines, but I don't know, this just seems like more Wii U not-looking-so-healthy news. If the version that hadn't launched yet had been the 360 version, you can bet they'd have pushed it out the door.

When Gearbox reveals that Colonial Marines was literally created by chimps with keyboards, we're all going to feel silly.

That sounds like a pretty bad game if you ask me. And everything is better when you play with friends so I don't think that negates the fact that this game is pretty bad.
