It's out in a couple of days and I still have no idea what genre it is. It's kind of hard to get excited for a game when I don't know anything about it. Should I be?
Aliens: Colonial Marines
Game » consists of 10 releases. Released Feb 12, 2013
A first-person shooter set in the Alien universe. The player is part of a search-and-rescue team sent out to search for the missing USCM team last seen in Aliens.
So uh... What on Earth is this?
@Shaunage: I know a website about video games called Giant Bomb.
From what I've seen of the game, it's a generic space FPS with too many scripted events with Aliens trappings.
Maybe I'm being negative. I personally am not excited for it because of the direction it went in.
@Sticky_Pennies: There are plenty of threads on this and some where even long periods of gameplay from the start of the game has been posted so I don't know what else to tell to this gentleman, other than that as a fan of the IP, I can confirm that the game does suck, and that he should not buy it for a full retail price.
All I know about the game is the YEARS of it being advertised at my local GameStop, and the commercial for it displaying some really poor facial animations. It just looks like a bad game.
PLEASE?! Does it have 8-bit graphics, too? Oh boy, I'm much more excited about it suddenly.Turn based isometric dance sim, based on the hit film "Ghost Dad".

Wow, lot's of negativity rolling around.
Don't worry, I'm sure they've all played the game.
Personally, I don't understand how someone can fully dictate how a game will turn out without playing it at all. Yes, I understand that there was a livestream, but watching and playing a game are two entirely different things. Even if I'm a massive fan of a series, I still cannot stand watching footage of someone else play a game. I find it utterly boring no matter what the game may be.
Originally, it was going to be a squad-based FPS.
It's now looking more like a standard FPS from what IGN's stream indicated- at least for the single player.
Keep in mind, there still is drop-in/drop-out co-op for up to 4 players (And 2 player split screen). But from what I've heard- AI squadmates were ditched a while back in development. (May very well be for the best- if the NPC's skating movement shown off in the IGN stream was any sign)
Who knows- it may surprise us with above-average enemy AI and/or better gameplay than what we've seen so far (ESPECIALLY from the IGN stream). But what we DO know is that at the very least, the graphics of this game really showcase how rough and lengthy this game's development was. (It graphically looks noticeably worse than AvP 2010- unfortunately)

@Sticky_Pennies: So it is as I feared :( somehow I tought it would go the route of say Stalker or Farcy 2/3 ... a shame
Yeah... Not sure where you got that impression. :(
To my knowledge, unless I've missed something, even in its early stages Colonial Marines never went in that direction- it was going to be linear with an emphasis on squad-based tactics (Until again, AI squadmates were supposedly ditched).
Sadly, suffice to say- I will not be terribly surprised if the campaign is not balanced for single player and is only really playable in co-op.

If the IGN stream was any sign- its not just the facial animations that are laughable. :(
Human character movement- both in the cutscenes and of NPCs in-game- looks absolutely horrific.
It looks alright... I'm getting it at Game in UK for £20 if you trade in Hitman: Absolution ... So worth it.

is it safe to assume that squad AI will never improve to the stage where you can actually depend on your dudes to follow orders and not be stupid?
man i loved the hell out of the first two brothers in arms games, and foresaw a bright future for shooters. i had similar feelings playing star wars battlefront, r.i.p.

I really dug Hell's Highway too. Shame we didn't get more entries as the tactical shooter has gone badly neglected. I also really thought there was a ton of potential in multiplayer w the AI squad commands.
Having played the game I can say it's not that bad, unfortunately I do see it scoring badly in reviews because the campaign seems to be quite short. I've tried the multiplayer and that was fun, Team Deathmatch was actually quite well balanced but that might be because the game is new. If you don't pick it up now I'd recommend giving it a go when it drops in price.
