So I was going to buy a new rig now when christmas is over, but shit happened and I'm gonna have to wait a month or two for that.

Anyways, will Alpha Protocol run with an acceptable framerate on my current computer, or should I just wait and buy it when I get my new one?

    Here's the specs:

    Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 3.00 GHz
    4GB RAM
    Windows 7 64-bit
    GeForce 8800 GTS

It's been a while since I played it, but my computer is worse than that and as far as I remember, it ran fine.

@The_Laughing_Man:  Must be something wrong my end then, I tried it just now on Firefox and it wouldn't get past the installing components screen, it's been on there for about 4 minutes.

Stop fucking giving people that website.
System requirments lab is a bullshit website.
It doens't say if you can run it. It just works out if you can start up the game not if the framerates will be any good.

You should be able to run it, and if you have any problems, try reading through this thread, there are some pretty useful tweaks. It made my game run a lot smoother, and overall made the experience way better. I ignored their tweaks when it came to his moving speed, and all that crap, I just tweaked the engine stuff.

@TheSeductiveMoose:  Give me a couple of hours to download it from Steam, and I'll check it out again.

@TheSeductiveMoose: You're welcome. It definitely made the game run better, and look better too. I think I actually got 6-10 more in FPS, and the mouse never annoyed me, like other complains about.

The only other way I know of is to look for a game specific benchmarking tool, and only about 5% of games ever release these.

Oh god. Apparently my crappy laptop blows the minimum specs out of the water. That seems wrong.

True. I just tried Mass Effect 2 and Mirror's Edge. Said I failed... although I can play both perfectly fine. And Mass Effect 1 somehow was off the charts it was so good, even though ME2 plays far better than 1 on my comp.

This. Those sites simply look at the minimum requirements, it's the same thing as going to Steam and looking for yourself. Minimum requirements are basically what it takes to install and load up a level, not what it takes to get good image quality or good performance.

Alpha Protocol, like most other UE3 games, is highly optimized and runs great on any mid end system (HD 5770/GTX 460 768MB) or above. Yours is below that though, so you'll probably have some issues, but for what it's worth it will probably still run and look better than the console version.

@TheSeductiveMoose:  Okay, I finally downloaded it, and got some sleep. Game defaulted to 1920x1080 and put all details on high. Ran perfectly fine in the tutorial mission. No noticeable slowdown.

@Meltac: If only I knew about that. Now that I finished, there's really no need. I was thinking about doing a second playthrough, renegade style, but I have a ton of other games to play and all the shit I have to go through in another playthrough just doesn't seem appealing. Maybe later this year. But, I also have my 2nd playthrough for Mass Effect 2 planned for later this year. Dammit.

@Winternet: You should totally do it, just because of all the possibilities, and the ways the whole game can play out.
