amiibo

Amiibo is Nintendo's NFC figurine and card program that works across multiple games. Amiibo work natively with the Nintendo Wii U via the NFC reader in the Wii U GamePad and the New Nintendo 3DS. In 2015, Nintendo will release an accessory for the original Nintendo 3DS that lets players use Amiibo on it as well.
What Amiibo will it take for you to give in?
Amiibos really enforce to me that I don't really care about any of Nintendo's characters. It's a surprise to me.
I think, maybe back in the day, I would have gone for some Earthbound ones? The Runaway 5 perhaps? I think a Flint figure for Mother 3 would be pretty great.
A Mike from Star Tropics one might appeal to me.
If Fire Emblem couldn't get me than I doubt I have a breaking point (except perhaps better Fire Emblem characters). Unless there was some functionality I actually cared about.
The Shovel Knight amiibo and only the Shovel Knight amiibo... if I ever find one at a local shop lol. Not really trying hard to find one, I just want to play more shovel Knight content and I refuse to buy one online and wait over a month for it to ship to me. (Shipping times suck where I live)
MissingNo, SuperStarman(Mother 2), Black Mage(FF1), Assorted Kirby Costumes, or really if they start making the trophies from Super Smash Bros into Amiibos, my bank would go dry in an instant...
EDIT: Also the monkey from Rhythm Heaven would be a preorder for me
I'm already pretty far into it.
Edit: With a picture
When they inevitably start releasing Event Pokemon you can only unlock with the corresponding Amiibo. Let's be honest, we all know that day is coming...
If they did them right (creepy and embarrasing) Senran Kagura amiibos would be a day one purchase. Y'know, things that make you uncomfortable about putting them on a shelf.
Also, while I have zero interest in pokemon I could get behind the dumb idea of having to buy each individual pokeman to use them. That would be nuts and it needs to happen. And then you could level them up between games. Yep, that needs to happen. Imagine seeing a shelf with every single pokemon in amiibo form.
I don't have any yet, but I'll almost certainly get Ryu and Bayonetta when they're out, so that'll probably open the floodgates. Compared to her appearance in her own games, Smash Bayonetta's head looks massive to me. I hope that doesn't end up looking too weird on the amiibo.
The Mega Man amiibo looks so dope, I'll probably have to get that too... I'm also a massive kirby fan, but paying that much for a pink plastic ball is my limit, I guess. Other than that, Samus (in suit) looks fantastic. The Zelda one looks cool. The Inklings, too.
Bought Link and Kirby when I got Smash, I wanted to see what their functionality was. After realizing they did effectively nothing worthwhile, I never bought another one.
I don't foresee myself submitting. I think $15 is a really big asking price for that type of collectible. Plus, I don't think the things they do in games is cool enough to justify the cost, effort, and shelf space they'd take up. I don't mind the idea of them, it's just not quite what I'd like it to be. I'm definitely not the market though. I'm not much of a collector, and in fact kind of make it a point to not display fandom type stuff.
That said, the 8bit Mario is pretty cool. And I'd almost consider getting that for my desk. Maybe a Boo. Boo is really cool.
I buy characters I like (DK, Toad, Luigi), but one of my first ones was Link because he unlocked a weapon in Hyrule Warriors, and that spinner is cool as hell.
I'm pretty much finished though, I have all of my favorites (Sonic, Splatoon Trio, DK, Toad) and the only one I'd probably pick up is Roy, but Fire Emblem amiibos are not worth the struggle.
It would be cool if they did a Link to the Past/Link Between Worlds-style Link. I don't much care for how they've redesigned Link in Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword, which is sadly the design they're using for Amiibos, Smash Bros., Mario Kart, etc.
I probably still wouldn't buy it, though.
The Fire Emblem characters that they have made toys for are cool but I'm not attached to their story like I am Lyn or someone from that era...I'd by a Lyn amiibo
Or dude...A Custom Robo Amiibo?
I'm pretty far down that hole already. I've been tempted to buy a pack or two of the cards "just to check them out", but I'm afraid of what that might lead to.
I own 7 Amiibo and 4 were Christmas gifts. Toon Link and Smash Bros Luigi (that glorious pose) were the ones that broke me. I thought I was done, but Dan's recent obsession got me thinking about maybe buying some more. I picked up a Yarn Yoshi the other day. If they ever make a Waluigi or Tingle I might have to consider spending more money on these things.
If by giving in you mean owning at least one, then I gave in from the get go. I was really curious about the whole thing and how well they'd work, so I picked up the Smash Bros. Mario. The only other one I have besides that is the retro colors 8-bit Mario, and that was mostly because I know how batshit hard it can be to find certain Amiibos, saw Gamestop had exactly one left, and figured, man, fuck it. Besides, that's maybe the one Amiibo I actually think looks cool sitting up on my shelf.
Sorry to bump this, and I don't know why I was thinking about it, but I'm kind of surprised they didn't create a "Non-Specific Action Figure" Amiibo or at the very least have it show up as a cameo in a few games.
