Axel Stone is a recurring protagonist from SEGA's classic Streets of Rage series. He and Blaze are the only two characters to appear in all four games. His trademark uppercut is called the "Ground Upper", though sometimes misheard as "Grand Upper!"

Hayato is a mafioso that comes from Italy to see if the heir to the title of vongola decimo (which is Tsuna) is worthy of title. Hayato becomes one of Tsuna's friends and later on becomes Tsuna's storm guardian.
Takeshi Yamamoto is a friend of Tsuna Sawada, That eventually gets caught up in the antics of Tsuna's Life. Later on in the series Takeshi becomes Tsuna's rain guardian.
Tsunayoshi Sawada was a regular junior high student before he was given the role of mafia boss of the most prominent mafia family in the underground.
Souther is the second boss of Streets of Rage. He returns in the sequel as the co-boss of level 6, as a palette swap of Zamza.

Boxer, with good strength and jump technique but is slow. He only appears as a playable character in the first Streets of Rage game, but is the main reason for the plot line of Streets of Rage 2.
