It's fun for about a week and every sequel is the same.

It just gets repetitive after a bit.

It's a lot of fun if you never played any game in the series before. I found the Gamecube version very addicting.

I've played it. It got very repetitive after a week or so. The only points of the game are to upgrade and personalize your house, talk to people, keep your town up, and thats about it. Also, the city is VERY small. It's not as exciting as it seems. There are no real major and effective changes, and the only online play still involves friend codes. Don't get it, unless you're a junkie for casual games.

You have to be in the right mood to enjoy it. And it seems to only be fun in small doses.

The only one I enjoyed was the Gamecube version. Can't beat collecting the NES games.

The only version you need to play is the Gamecube version. Its the best and all the other ones are almost the exact same game.

The original GC version was great for both the NES games and the bizarre localization of the animals. I remember one of them telling me they thought my clothes were too tight, and they liked it! I think the DS version was best from an ease of gameplay standpoint...using the stylus to type letters and manage inventory was awesome.

The first one is the only good one. DS is a little worse, but adds online play. Wii one sucks. Don't buy it.

Animal Crossing is the shit, yo.

I spent dozens of hours on the first title, more on the DS version and even some time on the Wii version. I remember I laughed when Jeff and Ryan were talking on the podcast one time about the game, Ryan saying that he brought his memory card to Jeff's house for New Year's Eve because he had to play the game at midnight and attend the celebration. When asked why he didn't just change the time manually on the Gamecube, he said, "Well, that's wrong." I laughed so much because I followed that code myself.

I'm still playing Wild World on the DS every day, and have been for months and months now. It drip-feeds you new fun stuff, ensuring you feel like you keep having to come back. If you're the kind of person who has that specific brand of OCD that sees you trying to collect everything in a game, this is perfect. Brilliantly addictive.

Great game, especially for its replay value.  I've been playing City Folk consistently since its release in November 2008.  However, my friends stopped caring about it by January 2009.  If my sister didn't still play it, I would've tired of it by January as well.

As somebody else mentioned, Animal crossing isn't for everyone. I've only played the first AC, but I loved it. When I first read about animal crossing in Nintendo power, I scoffed at it and thought it was one of the dumbest looking games I have ever seen. I got it as a present for Christmas that year and tried to be as polite and grateful as possible that it was given to me. I decided to give it a chance and when I did I was pretty much hooked instantly. I probably played that game for a full year seeing all of the holiday events and festivals and did everything there is to do in AC.

When I think about it, It doesn't make sense that I loved Animal Crossing so damn much but I did. Its not usually the kind of game I enjoy. It's very slow paced and requires a relaxed state of mind to appreciate. Its definitely the sort of game that you play to unwind.
