    Overview

BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle, sometimes known as BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle, is a 2D fighting game developed and published by Arc System Works for the PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC (digitally) in Japan (on May 31, 2018), North America (on June 5, 2018), and Europe (on June 22, 2018).

A crossover fighting game by the studio behind the BlazBlue series, Cross Tag Battle features characters from not only BlazBlue: Central Fiction, but also the fighting games Persona 4 Arena and Under Night In-Birth EXE:Late[st], as well as the animated series RWBY. As the name implies, the game focuses on 2-on-2 tag-team matches (similar to the Marvel vs. Capcom series).

The game is notable and infamous for its use of DLC, with half of its base roster released over time in seven premium Character Packs. It is also notable for its Japanese arcade release on April 25, 2019, where it was digitally distributed simultaneously on two competing PC-based platforms: the Taito Type X3 (via NESiCAxLive2) and the Sega ALLS UX (via ALL.Net P-ras MULTI Ver. 3).

Updates made to the arcade version, including nine additional characters (some of which are guest characters from other franchises, namely Arcana Heart, Akatsuki, and Senran Kagura), updated story, and new gameplay mechanics, were brought to the console version on November 21, 2019 as BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle Special Edition, with the characters and story updates as a paid expansion DLC. This version was later released on the Amazon Luna on February 18, 2021, followed by the Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One on April 26, 2023.

    Characters

The base game includes 20 playable characters from four separate franchises, with additional characters added as part of paid DLC Character Packs (with two characters added separately as free DLC). Some of the later characters are guest characters from other franchises (such as Heart from the Arcana Heart series and Akatsuki from the Akatsuki series).

With the game's Ver 2.0 release, the game includes a total of 53 playable characters. The arcade version, as well as the Special Edition releases, include instant access to all characters.
