    Buffalo the city, not the animal. Buffalo itself is not named for the animal, but rather its name is a bastardization of the French traders' name for the Niagara River, "beau fleuve." While the Buffalo Sabres play within city limits, the Buffalo Bills actually make their home in Orchard Park.
