    Overview

Cartoon violence is a staple in the majority of animated short films during the golden age of animation. Often these shorts used physical comedy and portrayed over the top violent acts. These acts mostly never permanently injure the cartoon characters in the shorts and result in situations that are so ridiculous that one can't help but laugh. These acts of violence include but are not limited to; gunfire, explosions, and falling anvils or other heavy objects. This concept of over-the-top yet non-lethal violence soon found its way into video games. Often those that featuring cartoon characters from the golden age of animation. However it can also be applied to games that use ridiculous non-lethal violent acts, such as a giant mallet pulled out of thin air used to hit someone.
