Poll How is everyone planning to play Cyberpunk 2077? (Hardware) (304 votes)

    PS4 7%
    XBOX ONE 2%
PC 1080 or lower (aka no ray tracing) 25%
PC 2060 or higher (aka with ray tracing) 37%
    PS5 13%
    XBOX SERIES X 14%

Hey everyone, like a lot of people I'm looking forward to the release of Cyberpunk. With this in mind I was curious how everyone is planning to play whenever the time comes.

I'm in a weird tech limbo at the moment, my PC is relatively old and nothing to write home about (i5-6500 @ 3.20 GHz, GTX 1070, 32GB RAM). I doubt I'll be able to run the game without some potentially severe compromises, so I'm pondering the inevitable PC upgrades or next gen console.

Hope everyone that wants to gets to try out what will hopefully be another CDPR classic :)

    Stay safe out there!

BTW I noticed a very similar poll in the forum that pre-dates this post. I only left this one up since its a little more specific.

and yeah I forgot Stadia was even an option....not the most top of mind service out there. Whoops

Ray tracing isn’t really interesting to me at all but I have a 2080 S so I’m playing it with that card.

This is pretty much me as well. I'm hoping to get a 3070 ordered tomorrow (unless AMD announce something tonight that is better), and if I can't get one I'll have to stick with my 1080.

1070 and an i7 (4790k sounds right...) for a few hours before I get distracted by a Warframe event or a game breaking glitch and don't come back until a year later when all the patches and DLC has settled and I have a 3080 and a ryzen (debating which of those).

I would love to get a new video card, but then I would have to get a new cpu and new ram and probably a new motherboard and then I would need to take this motherboard out of the case and put all the new stuff back in and arrange all the cables and I kind of hate doing all that. Also it would cost a fortune so hopefully those lazy-bums over at CDPR with their cushy jobs and taking their sweet time on the game have done some optimizing and it works well enough on a 1080.

    @humanity:

from @jasonschreier who tends to be in the know about these kinds of practices:

"Look, a CDPR dev told me recently that they'd just clocked a 100-hour week. Another (former) dev just told me they saw some of their friends there and they looked "physically ill". So kindly gtfo with the "but but but I work long hours too" responses"

It was going to be on Xbox (One X, so hopefully it would run semi-decently) so I could schlep it with me when I traveled for a week over Thanksgiving, but now that it's delayed I don't need to worry about that. I've got a 2070 Super with a severe CPU bottleneck that I'm hoping to rectify around Black Friday, so I think Cyberpunk will wind up being what breaks in my new build.

Really hope PS5 eventually makes me stop needing to choose between HDR (console) and 4K/60fps/raytracing. When done right HDR is better than all of that (see TLOU2, Sekiro). Too bad Cyberpunk won't have raytracing until sometime (late?) next year.

@lonelyspacepanda: "Raytracing" can mean a lot of different things, but bear in mind that even an RTX 3080 can't maintain 4K/60 with all the Raytracing goodies turned on in a game like Control. It's not realistic to expect that a PS5 will do better.

An RTX 3080 can do all at 60 FPS in Control by utilizing DLSS. It's not "real" 4K, but you can't really tell the difference. Unfortunately it doesn't seem like the consoles will have anything like DLSS, so having high end raytracing featuring at high resolution and framerate is probably not in the cards for this generation.

Probably PS5, my computer is ancient. I5 5690 with a GTX 960 so there is no shot in hell that will run better than the PS5 I’ll hopefully get at some point.

The game looks neat but not neat enough to drop $1600+ on a new PC.

PS4 Pro because I literally have no other option at the moment and am far too broke to get a PS5 anytime soon (nor is there much need to given the dearth of exclusives). I might inherit my brother's old gaming laptop soon once he upgrades to a full blown gaming PC but even this laptop is ~2-3 years old by now. So I do wonder — how screwed will I be by playing this on a Pro? As in, how much of a hit will I (and all other current gen players) take in terms of performance, visuals, "immersion" and perhaps the overall experience? I guess no one really knows just yet. I just really hope the performance is stable at the very least. Fingers crossed for there being a classic "Better resolution vs. Higher frame rate" option in the settings.

Edit: I should specify I'm playing through a 4K TV which does HDR so...not all bad!

I'm very seriously considering Stadia for this. If it looks significantly better than PS4 or Xbox (and it fucking better), that might be a good option, I dunno. I played Thumper on Stadia and it basically worked perfectly, and I'm curious to try a longer thing.

Imma wait for the smarty-pants Digital Foundry people to make the comparison though. If there's no significant graphical difference, my PS4 Pro is obviously the way to go.

honestly- series S if i can get it. most of the features of the X wont work on my TV, so it seems a bit silly to pay the premium (and i'm not buying a new tv at this time.) i'm not super confident that my launch x one is going to provide enough juice to not kind of suck though. the S seems like a good compromise for those of us in the 'older but still nice tv but want quicker load times crowd'

Going to wait till the PS5 Midsummer Patch for the best first time experience. I have plenty of games on the backend to keep me busy till then like Mafia, RE3, Uncharted Lost Legacy, Doom DLC, Genshin Impact, Demon's Souls, and Astro's Playroom.

Well considering how absolutely awful of a launch the RTX 30's have had... I suppose I have to settle with my aging 1070 Ti. (thermal throttling and I do not want to crack it open to replace the paste to be honest).

On PC, Ryzen 5 3600, RTX 2060 Super, 970 evo nvme. I was pretty hype for a while, but now I'll just wait and see. Mostly looking forward to enjoy it over many years, just like Witcher 3.
