I have been waiting to get a Playstation 3 for sometime now and I was wondering if it is time to give in or wait longer. My Xbox 360, Wii, DS, and Psp have been more than enough entertainment for now. Two factors have kept me getting one. The first is a lack of good games which Sony is finally starting to solve. The second is the price which has been way too high but is finally getting affordable.
What do think is the Playstation 3 worth getting now or should I wait?
Is the Playstation 3 worth getting now?
fuck no
there is no reason to purchase a ps3 if exclusives as big as FF13 are being taken from the system with sony doing nothing
I got mine 3 weeks ago, similar situation to you; have the other 2 consoles, the handhelds etc. and yeah, if you're looking for a new purchase then go grab one. Metal Gear Solid 4 is fun, the Out of Bounds golf game is great and PSN has some fun arcade games too. That's been my experience with it so far, if you can afford one then it is worth the price.
"fuck noPlease do not do this, this isn't system wars. it depends, if you like shooters, and you are willing to sacrifice part of the online experience then it is okay.

It's definitely worth getting. My 360 and Wii have been collecting dust the day I bought the PS3. I'm not saying it's better, just there's definitely a difference between them, which makes it worth buying as you're not just getting a 360 clone.
If you have the money, I recommend buying the PS3.
I'd say yes it has some amazing games and nowthat Blu-Ray has won i'd definately get one if I had the money
I was considering buying one recently, but after some re-thinking there really isn't any reason for me to get one. I don't give a damn about Blu-Ray or Metal Gear, and I'm perfectly happy with my 360. If Resistance 2, littlebigplanet, Killzone 2 and GT5 turn out to be amazing games, maybe then, but certainly not now.

do not do what?
Save this guy from a purchase he doesnt need if he is seriously thinking of spending money on a system that will continue to recieve mediocre first party titles and gimped multiplatform games that he should buy on 360 where they are best?
There is blind fanboyism , and there is looking at the fact that currently the ps3's game lineup sucks and MGS4 is not worth 400 dollars due to the fact you can enjoy it for free on youtube
"xplodedd said:Oh please take your fanboyism somewhere else. You obviously don't own a PS3, so your opinion on the system is almost obsolete."Guiltyspark said:"fuck noPlease do not do this, this isn't system wars. it depends, if you like shooters, and you are willing to sacrifice part of the online experience then it is okay.

I owned a ps3 up until june 2008 when i sold it , the games are terrible , the online is a joke , and its blu ray playback is terrible and jumpey
Its a peice of shit and you are better off spending your money towards new games on 360 or building a new computer

"I am definitely not a fanboy. I say it's better to just own every system that way you can play every good game. I will definitely be getting a PS3 eventually but I think I will wait to see what games come out this holiday season before I decide."I completely agree , its definately worth it to own every sytem in the long run
But as of right now anyone defending the ps3 and their purchase of one is going through some major damage control
The ps3 as of july 2008 is not worth buying
I dunno, if you don't have one by now, you apparently don't care all that much about Resistance, Uncharted or Ratchet & Clank. If you look down the road a bit, you can rest assured there will be plenty of great exclusive games for the PS3, but right now the question you need to ask yourself is "How badly do I want to play Metal Gear Solid 4?"
If you need to play it $400 badly, then yeah, go ahead and get it. If not, wait for the exclusive titles that really excite you.
I got a PS3 in June, but haven't really played it. The large library of 360 games keeps me busy, along with the online community. Sony is definitely improving their system, but as far as overall capabilities; 360 has you covered. If you have the cash, go ahead and pick it up when the price drops (which is soon? I don't quite remember). Or even if you just want to own all the systems, but at this current point it isn't a must-own console.
If you feel like you have enough to entertain you on your other consoles Then i suggest just save up for a PS3 till you are fed up with your other consoles.
However The PS3 is awesome When it comes to Blue Ray, Installed Intrenet, Games Like MGS4, Uncharted, Restiance among other great titles and also there is also a great lineup of games coming this holiday.
If you feel like you want it then just get it you wont be disapointed. I Will go on record here saying MGS4 is The Best Game i ever played and all i have to say now is 300 ft leviatin
I think more than anything, that now is a great time to pick up a PlayStation 3.
If you already own a 360 and Wii, just pick one up for the cheap. There's already fantastic games out that cover all genres and not one but a good couple of Game of the Year games in there.
Plus PSN is totally worth it now.
::Sigh::
I mean...yeah?
Here's the thing about it though. I got my PS3 winter of 2008. I have 6 games for it and I use it primarily for media streaming. It certainly gets a lot of use from me, but not for playing video games. Generally if there's a multiplatform game coming out that I'm interested in, I'll get it for 360 due to the larger community. And it's nice to have the future ability to get the AAA titles for the system, but really, for me, it might have simply been more affordable/effective to get a popcorn box/boxie box/roku box/a streaming box that can do .MKV's with subtitles.
And there are plenty of great games out there, but...I don't think I've played a game on my Ps3 since Naruto: Storm 2 came out, and that game was pretty terribad. Before that, I think the last game I played through was Uncharted 2, which was superlative, but that came out almost a year ago...
So...maybe?
I think it is, I'm not a fanboy of either console but what I can say it PS3 has some great exclusives and will still be a viable system until the next gen of consoles comes out which at earliest will be prob holiday season 2012. Also if you don't have a blu-ray player that's another reason to get it.
When you think about the games though, there's more than Uncharted 2. There's also Sly, some solid PSN products, and of course...the real driving simulator.
Overall, I think you'd be missing out on high quality games if you never got a PS3. The same as if you never got a 360.
" @Mesoian: When you think about the games though, there's more than Uncharted 2. There's also Sly, some solid PSN products, and of course...the real driving simulator. And I'm still excited for stuff like Pixal Junk Shooter 2, and though I already own all the Sly games, I'm still interested in the Sly remix pack and the SOTC/Ico remake pack.
I am, however, not interested in GT5 at all. Mostly for the reasons that Jeff and Ryan talked about on last night's podcast. I'm far more interested in Dirt3, and again, I'm more likely to get that for 360 rather than the Ps3 due to the online community.
With stuff like Valkyria Chronicles going to PSP and the Naruto Storm line going pretty crappy and FF13 being a MAJOR dissapointment (I did own that, beat it, then Goozex'd it because it was so f'n terribad) and KH3 and FF13v not due out until 2012, 2011 just doesn't have the heavy hitters that would make me reccomend the platform. On top of which, it's still pretty expensive, which makes it hard to suggest one to go back and play the older games for it.
Basically it comes down to how valuable the exclusives are to you. If you already own a 360, the value drops because there are so few exclusives these days. If you really want to play them, it might be worth picking up another console for it. If you already own a 360, though, then the value drops quite a bit since you can already play most new games that are coming out.
Since the consoles are virtually equal in every other respect (save for Blu-ray), it's mostly a matter of taste. So, is it worth picking one up? Sure. I got a PS3 a few years ago. I hardly ever use it now, but I played quite a bit on it at the time. Definitely feel like I got my money's worth. I prefer the 360, but I suggest that gamers look more at the games than the console when making this decision.
Uncharted - Both of them
Ratchet and Clank - Both of them
Resistence - Both of them ( soon 3 )
GT5
Infamous ( soon 2 )
Killzone 2 ( soon 3 )
Little big Planet 1 ( soon 2 )
Flower
God of War Collection
Demon's Souls
Metal Gear Solid 4
Wipeout HD
Blu-ray
There are probably more that I am forgetting.
So yeah, if you say that there is lack of GOOD games you are just stupid, if you say that not even one of these games interests you then just don't buy it!
The online community is not as big though, but you don't have to pay for it !
I don't see how having a "larger online community" is a major reason to choose one console over the other, both consoles have a huge amount of people online and the only games that struggle to find people are generally those with bad multiplayer components which effects both consoles. While the PS3 tends to have less people using mics, most on the 360 have voice muted due to the kids anyway.I'm far more interested in Dirt3, and again, I'm more likely to get that for 360 rather than the Ps3 due to the online community. "
Honestly, the biggest reason that people choose one console over the other is because that's where their friends are. If everyone you play with is on the 360 why would you get games for the PS3? (and vise versa) It would have to be an exclusive or vastly superior version, 360 Bayonetta and PS3 FFXIII are the only two that spring to mind.
I used to be an Xbox fanboy but Sony has really won me over with their great exclusive titles (Infamous, LBP, Uncharted), bluray (which I have had no issues with, BTW) and Move, which has the most potential for next-gen motion controlled games (bocce, anyone?). Just my 2 cents...
Of course it is. Im in the same boat as you, sans the 360, Wii and Psp. Ive been trying to get one since 2006!
I only own Uncharted 2, Infamous, and Demon's Souls and they were worth the price alone. UC2 is my favorite shooter, Infamous is my favorite open world action game, and Demon's Souls is my favorite RPG (of this console generation).
I still get the urge to play UC2 multiplayer all the time. Easily one of the most underrated online multiplayers.
Two years ago? i dunno..right now, i've only become interested in getting a PS3 ( 12/01/10 ) and mainly my interests are getting GT5, and Demon Souls
