I just thought how awesome it would be to actually be able to take screencaps while playing a game on your PS3 (be it PSone, PStwo or PS3 games). I thought of that while I was surfing the Net trying to find good screenshots of video games. All of the best are hosted on GameSpot, IGN and GameSpy, but they all have watermarks. Being able to take screenshots of games on your PS3 in their native resolution would be of tremendous help. The PS3 already has a print feature (I wonder what for though. I've never used it.). Do you think it would be technically possible to add such a feature with a system software update? Discuss.

The PlayStation 3 (often abbreviated PS3) is the third home video game console created and released by Sony Computer Entertainment Inc.
Take screencaps with your PS3 ?
I would like that. They are adding that youtube support thing where you'll be able to record gameplay and upload it straight to youtube. Pixeljunk Eden is going to support that. Plus MGS4 had the camera. So I don't see why they couldn't add something like that.
The print feature is for printing pictures and whatnot from your PS3.
I am pretty sure they are supposed to add a screen shot thing in one of the updates. I heard about it somewhere and I think it would be so awesome for those random moments in games.
"The print feature is for printing pictures and whatnot from your PS3.Exactly! It seems like a small feature but like with MGS4 I've spent so much time just taking pictures of random things. Especially when you find the people who are taking a bathroom break in the game. :D

Is it possible to spam Eric Lampel's email box? I really want this feature. We could add all the screencaps we want to GiantBomb.com! :)
I don't recommend you spam his mail box just because you want something. He may say then, "Oh YA! You SOB! I'm not going to deliver it then when you SPAM!!!".
But the only problem is, that they have to have a button to take screens. And the only button that isn't used by games is the PS button. So they should just put the screenshot option on the old PS menu - or make it a different way. It should be if you hold it down for like 3 seconds without letting go - then it takes the shot. If you quickly press and let go it brings up the XMB. If you hold for a second and let go, it brings up the old menu (or just get rid of the old menu, but I like it cause it is a bit more convienient for quitting games than the XMB).
Many games allow this, like MGS4, RFOM, flOw, etc. More games will support this, as well as YouTube in-game recording/uploading later on.

Yet another thing that is needed along with being able to listen to music while in the PS store, having true internet support, being able to upload videos and such, Having voie chat available with friends across games etc. PSN needs to get better, not that it hasn't with in-game XMB!
"the 'print' feature is merely there to hook up an actual physical printer to your ps3, the only way to get footage or screen shots is to sell our around £60 or $100 on a tv card for your pc"
No, if you play PS3 games you'll know some of them support print screening. Like RFOM or MGS4.

They do, the devs just have to support it or not.

But yeah, some games support Print Screening as well. I don't remember it in RFOM, but then again - I never tried. MGS4, I like it in that game cause you can change the colour and contrast and stuff in the pictures. It was neat, unfortunately I found out about it AFTER I beat the game. I just thought the camera that you pick up would be used later in the game for something... I didn't know it was for screenshots!
"grainger said:and if you knew anything about your ps3 and looked at it just took a moment or two you would know that it is there to connect and actual printer, one which uses paper and ink/toner to make pretty pictures on a page:P sorry if i sound a bit sinacle but when you've had 2hours sleep that happens"the 'print' feature is merely there to hook up an actual physical printer to your ps3, the only way to get footage or screen shots is to sell our around £60 or $100 on a tv card for your pc"

also the only way i've found to possibly record footage from any console involves an expensive trip to an electronics shop such as pc world, curry's or radioshack and a spaghetti junction of cables leading from your ps3 to your tv then from your tv to your pc and then recording can begin straight to your pc hard drive
it would be really good if there was a bult in recorder on the ps3 but its not here yet

Yeah you can, plug in a keyboard and press the 'Prt Sc Sys Rq' button, and bam, the image is slapped onto your HDD. Only works in MP though. It was patched in though, not on release (since it came out the day PS3 did)

Exactly, it has nothing to do with screen caps lol..
Wouldn't doubt you'll see it as a new feature in the future. Tho, I thought I heard rumors WAY back that they were going to implement such a feature from the start... hmm.

Yeah, h means youtube uploading. Some games allow you to start recording and upload the vid to youtube, while in-game.
That's amazing.
Has Sony said if all future PS3 games will support the youtube uploading feature? That would be sweet.
