A mace, similar to a club/hammer, is a blunt weapon that is swung to deliver powerful blows. Usually a mace has a metal or wooden handle and a ball or "flange" shaped end. The ball shaped mace usually has a spherical end with spikes to deal more damage to personnel. Flanged maces have flatter, sharper edges at the end of the shaft meant for penetrating armor. Maces are generally short, heavy weapons that are used up close to the enemy. Maces are oftentimes ceremonially used and heavily detailed & decorated.
Maces are not to be confused with flails, which notably have a chain connecting the end to the handle for longer ranged attacks.
