Relaxing, with a bit of challenge. 0

There's something about PixelJunk Eden, and its expansion Eden Encore, that draws attention to it. The art style is unique, and it turns heads. It's a simple enough game that people are willing to stop for a few moments and try to figure out how the game works; after a few moments, it seems simple. Pop pollen bubbles, grab pollen, tag pods, get more plants to grow so you can progress in the level, grab the glowing spectra to finish it. People who have never played the game pick up the controller...

Whoever thought that adding a timer to this game was a good idea should be shot 0

The review deck above pretty much sums up my feelings about this game. It is a potentially excellent game, almost totally ruined by what is possibly the most incredibly stupid design decision in the history of video gaming -- making the levels timed. What is otherwise a relaxing, exploration-based experience is completely ruined by the fact that you only have a few minutes to finish every level. There are items on each level that you can find to increase your timer, but if you get stuck or hi...

The Grooviest Platformer of the Decade. 0

When I started up PixelJunk Eden after acquiring it in a steam sale, I was treated to a beautiful, minimal splash of plant-life. In the background is a mellow, bassy melody, some plucky synths, and some whirrs and beeps. I'm reminded immediately of Flower, but that's not going to last long. Click a mouse button, and I am introduced to my player character/avatar/whathaveyou: a little seed-looking Pokemon-like thingy. A quick wikipedia search informs me that the creature is called a "Grimp". Adora...

PixelJunk Eden On Playstation 3 Store Micro-Review 0

I love it. I was totally sceptical about it after playing the demo the other day but it’s all just clicked into place now. I totally get it and I love it. The music is out of this world awesome with hard hitting beats, Brian Eno-esque ambient squelches and even human breath and “scoo-pip” samples. The controls are a lot tighter than you first think they’re going to be too. They just take a lot of practice and eventually you will be able to string tons of moves together. It’s also fun. It’s got tha...

    Gardening, without the allegies... 0

PixelJunk has come up with so fairly interesting concepts but none even compare to Eden. Eden has a very unique art style with vivid colours and a protagonist that would feel completely odd in any other game. The GRIMP as it is called is a very acrobatic creature equiped with a swinging tool called it's silk. The Grimp is out to destroy enemies by hitting the with his/her body (gender unknown) and then collect the remnants (pollen). This pollen is used to help seeds grow which allow the player t...

Is it a good game? 0

The art design of this game is exquisite, and the gameplay is unique.  I appreciate what I think they were trying to do here.I enjoyed the first two or three gardens, once I got the hang of the gameplay mechanics, they were easy enough to be almost relaxing.  But as the difficulty ramped up, all I was left with was frustration and a headache.  In the interest of full disclosure, I never made it to gardens 9 and 10.If I can just put on my armchair-game-designer hat for a minute, I think perhaps w...

I never liked gardening before Eden 0

This game is beautiful to look at,  pleasing to the ears, and addictive as psychotropics. I think that says it all. The game just has that great balance between fun, frustration, and a sense of achievement (trophy?) that keeps you going for one more level. In PJE, you are a tiny bug-like gimp who can basicly jump around and spin on a silk that you form as you jump from one plant to another. The goal in PJE is basically to grow a number of gardens (10) and you will need to play through each garde...

Simple, artistic, and engaging gameplay with Pixeljunk Eden 0

I wasn't a fan of Racer and slightly enjoyed monsters, but Eden has definitely gotten my attention. The jumping and diving mechanic (triggered by the moving the control down) were immediately frustrating.  I kept falling short of my targets or overshooting. What became more frustrating was that I was running out of time.  However, I began to get the hangs of things right after getting the first spectra and things have gone rather smoothly.  Admittedly I am on stage 7 but so far I’m enjoying the ...

The emotional swing of Anger, Joy and Anger 0

Pixel Junk Eden is one of those rare and interesting games that keeps you thinking about it after you're done and makes you always want to do better because you know you can. The emotional curve that I went through when playing this game was initial frustration and complaints. One of the initial things you feel should be in the game from the beginning is the sense that you should be able to swing out silk in mid air to catch a branch. Once you get over the fact that you cannot do that, you adjus...

    PixelJunk Eden Review 0

PixelJunk Eden is the third game in the PixelJunk universe, with every edition being completely different than the others. Eden, the newest entry, is all about collecting seeds in a psychedelic garden to grow plants to find new ‘Spectra’. The look and concept of the game might not sound so great, but it needs to be played to be completely understood. As said before, the whole point is to find Spectra. These Spectra are located around 10 massive gardens, five in each one. Once a Spectra is collec...

    Playable modern art. 0

PixelJunk Eden (as well as its expansion Eden Encore) ranks really high on my personal favorites list. It’s definitely somewhere up there in my top 5, but since I do not keep any particular scoring system it would be difficult to determine the exact place. One thing is sure – Eden was the very reason I decided to purchase PS3 console. Most people bought Playstation 3 to play Uncharted, Resistance, Metal Gear Solid or other blockbuster title from the initial release list. I have been a PC gamer fo...

Instead of rich colors, it uses 3-4, with the neon plants/ground contrasting with the psychedelic background. Instead of cheery game tunes, slow electronica issues forth from your speakers. Time, not the enemies, is your biggest foe. And you have to pull off combos and gather spores to create your ...
