Well this isn't what I quite expected.

If anyone reads this, which they probably won't, it's that I've really fallen out of love with podcasts, run on videos, and generally 'unedited' format of people talking in rooms. The crafted work of someone is something I'd prefer to engage with, rather than tossed off thoughts to be replaced with more tossed off thoughts next week.

It probably doesn't do the numbers that those aforementioned black friday lists do. But it's a hell of a lot more interesting.

This is how I feel, too; extremely sucks to hear (about the future of reviews on GB) what this review is implying. I have hated that, as GB has stopped writing reviews, I have to find random reviews on google or twitter, often not knowing the history, frame of reference, or general trustworthiness of the byline.

I also fell out of love with the unedited, meandering style of podcast or livestream productions many years ago. I'm sure it's much easier, requires less overhead, and makes more business sense for the people making it, but it's just not what I'm looking for.

My overall feelings run somewhat parallel to something that Jeff brought up in this review: at this point in my life, I am an adult with much more income than time. I'm lucky that I'm well-off enough to be able to buy a new game I want on a whim, but I don't have even a fraction of the time to check out a game 'just because.' In that same vein, the time that I would be burning on a 15-90m podcast or video about a game is part of the limited amount of that I have per day in which I could instead be playing games. Written text, by comparison, is something I can skim a few paragraphs at a time throughout the work day or read through on my lunch break.

Obviously other people are in a completely opposite situation: many people have more time than money, have a long commute in which to absorb a podcast, etc. Again, I'm sure the business numbers and metrics are what they are; it's just a shame to feel alienated by the direction of GB's (and the industry's in general, I guess) coverage.

There were Game Boy Color-only games, and many of them! The Game Boy Color was a whole new console. The Game Boy Pocket was a revision to the Game Boy.

Yeah, there were absolutely a shitton of Game Boy Color-exclusive games. Here's the list; anything with 'no' in the Dual Mode column was not playable on a regular Game Boy. It's unquestionably a different system; claiming otherwise is like saying the DS and 3DS are the same.

I'm not sure how useful blurring out the game in the thumbnail is when the game's title is tagged to the right of the video

The 'r' in the version number stands for 'revision'; it's the way that 'revision control systems' like Git or Subversion keep track of individual commits to a project and keep the overall project files in sync between multiple developers.

@dannyodwyer Have you publicly gone through the hardware for your racing wheel/pedals/seat/monitor setup anywhere? Is it a separate PC than your normal desktop (guessing so, since you said it's in the garage)? I'm thinking about putting something together once I move and have a bit more space, but my initial research makes it seem like something where you can spend anywhere from 500 to 5000 dollars on a setup and I don't know where to start.

Honestly I don't really get the point of just playing the opening 3/4 hours of a (I presume) 40+ hour RPG. I wish they'd just downloaded cheat engine and made themselves invincible and given themselves 500% exp gain or something so they can get through the combat quickly.

As someone who hasn't played kingdom hearts I don't really know why I'd bother watching the rest of the series if they're gonna do this, just seems kind of pointless, at least for me personally. I'm sure it works for people who've already played these games and get to just relive some memories.

I know committing to playing these long RPGs is a serious time sink, I know they're busy with a lot of other, more important stuff and I know that the current pace of a 1 and a half-ish hour episode a week it would have taken them years to finish all the games so I can totally understand why they don't want to do it but still, its a real shame for me.

Oh well, not everything is for me, and that's OK!

This is exactly, exactly how I feel. I would never play this series on my own, so I was looking forward to some combination of DP ER/Metal Gear Scanlon, riding along with somebody who has history with the series (Jan) and somebody who has the patience for how silly it seems (Vinny).

Another game that's in vogue to shit on cause everyone else is doing it.

Am I allowed to shit on it if I played the demo a month ago and thought it sucked so much ass that I uninstalled it before I even finished it, or do you think that every negative opinion anybody could possibly have is only because they're trying to be 'popular' with other people?

Please continue this series. Kingdom Hearts seems completely awful to me, but Vinny and Jan seem like the perfect pairing to riff on the dumb parts but still be patient enough to not just ignore everything the entire time. Vinny and Jan have a chemistry I haven't felt in a decade; this might as well have been a P4ER episode.
