ALBUMMER! 50: Aerosmith's Music from another Dimension

Today on Albummer! we're talking about Aerosmith's 2012 release "Music from Another Dimension." As Lucie points out, unfortunately, this sounds exactly like it came from our suck-ass dimension.

The crew behind Two Minutes to Late Night are here to re-review some of the most critically reviled albums out there!

I’m extremely pleased this show has hit 50 eps. Looking forward to the upcoming theme blocs!

I truly don’t understand why this album has the old b-movie conceit. Aside from the intro, outro, and one of the music videos, there’s really nothing to suggest an overarching theme. I think Aerosmith just liked the old movie aesthetic and got their design team to invent an album title and cover artwork to match it.

'There is one recipe that my wife makes and every couple of months I'll crave it'

'...and the recipe is called Aerosmith sauce'

Congrats on 50 episodes, here's to 50 more!

I'm guessing they were bleeping out either Doug Benson or Jo Koy.

The sequence of events escapes me but I recall Steven Tyler one time shopping at my job's stores one time about ten years ago and an Aerosmith song was on the muzak station and someone put him on the overhead and he proceeded to screech out a bunch of the song live for people in that store. They made a big deal about it on the internal company website and I just thought that it seemed like hell.

I think he had some legal issues with being inebriated in public soon after.

I constantly mess with a coworker by saying that Aerosmith only ever recorded Dream On and broke up afterwords because they realized they peaked. In more metal news, I also remember their bassist showing up to go see Demilich at MDF one year.

@diet_hellboy On the Voicemail Dumptruck, Bakalar and co. had a 2 month arc discussing the best thing to have Calvin piss on for a bumper sticker. I believe they are doing a stream this Thursday designing that bumper sticker. You should submit 'Calvin pisses on Giant Bomb' for approval.

Happy 50th Albummer everyone, hosts and viewers alike!

If you've watched or hosted all the episodes on this show you've spent dozens upon dozens of hours listening and researching usually not good music.

And for this we thank you

Congrats on episode 50! We laughed at bad music, we cried at KRL's untimely death, and we learned Emily is too cool for any of us losers. Here's to one of my favorite shows on the internet.

Today I learned that Steven Tyler and Tommy Tallarico are cousins. His birth name is Steven Tallarico. What the hell.

Man, the definition of Aerosmith as feeling 'fake big' really hit the nail on the head. They have all these top selling singles, and yet I have never actually met someone who has worn the band t-shirt, or put on a song of theirs. I don't doubt their stadium tours used to sell out though.

@thaquoth: I also learned that last night, just from Googling Steven Tyler to see how old he was. Noticed his real last name and then of course had to find out if they were in any way related. Lo and behold...kinda fucking crazy.

As for them being" fake big," I don't really see it that way. My dad is an Aerosmith fan and as a result, I listened to a lot of them growing up. I'm not familiar with their rise to fame or anything, they just always seemed huge since I've been alive. I've also seen countless old rockers sporting their shirts at shows over the years. I don't think they've necessarily had the same impact as a lot of their peers and I can't say I've ever heard anyone cite Aerosmith as an inspiration, though I'm sure they're out there. And honestly, I do still like a good deal of their music. Shit's catchy as hell.

Thanks for 50 great episodes and hopefully many more. I'm curious about the themed episodes but I hope you keep doing random, off-beat albums too. As always can't wait to hear what's next week!

Congrats to 50 episodes!

I’m glad you’re finally doing an Aerosmith album, Steven Tyler’s vocals are fucking insufferable and their songs are like nails on a chalkboard to me.

The example of the band that never changed their sound and just kept chugging... AC/DC. If you are only a casual AC/DC listener I would argue it's almost impossible to tell what album any of their songs are from, apart from knowing whether they are the Bon Scott or Brian Johnson era.

I'm not sure I buy into Aerosmith being "fake big" - they were huge, just in a verrrry particular time and place. You don't know anyone who has loyally followed their entire career, because that person would be insufferable, but they exist.

Glad to see a return of Bjork Talk to Giant Bomb. It dropped off pretty precipitously after Abby left.
