That thumbnail when shrunk down on my phone really looks that hood is actually a cockpit element, thus showing the final, happy moments of Donald Duck before he is vehicularly manslaughtered.

The boosting stuff looks nice and i like the multiple uses of the power ups. Also power ups being character-specific is a fun thing that makes this different from the competition.

That said, is it me or does the actual racing look quite slow? Same goes for the rail-grinds. And it just seems like the matches are too short to really start to get a gap going. If you're unlucky you'll just don't get out of the firing-range of all these power ups everyone fires around.

Mikes voice just gets a chuckle out of me. Love these dudes. Also I wonder why this is 720p?

@onemanarmyy: There are multiple speed options in the game: Fast, Faster and Fastest (I think that's how they name it. It is something basic like that). I think they were essentially playing on the 50cc in terms of Mario Kart speeds. I've found that in online matches, usually one person pulls away from the pack and because there is no blue shell equivalent rubber banding, they never face any obstacles and just coast the whole race.

The game looks cool, but I wish the karts had more personality. Like Baloo should be driving around in the plane from TaleSpin, Mulan could be in a Mushu shaped kart, or something.

This QL was lot of fun! I don't think I need another kart game but I must admit the game looked nice if you look past the monetization part. Thank you, great QL duo!

Looks cool, but I'm just going to wind up replaying Sonic Racing Transformed now. It's patched to run at 60 on the Xbox now and kicks so much ass. And I'm also reminded that the CTR remake is super good. Thanks, Disney Speedstorm!

@noboners:

Ah, thanks. I kinda expected that multiplayer experience already. If you're not breaking away from the pack, there's so much potential to get hit by power ups from other players in the vicinity that you have to be very lucky to not catch any strays. While the nr1 position doesn't have to deal with it all that much. Sonic All Stars Transformed at least had some power ups that created bee-swarms further up the road that would be most annoying for the nr 1 position. I wonder if this game has any power ups that specifically target the nr 1 position. Most of the power ups i've seen in this clip seem to mostly be meant to be used against the nearby players.

@onemanarmyy: So, in Speedstorm, each racer has their own set of pickups/weapons, and I know the majority of Donald's are close proximity weapons since he's more of an attacker. I've been playing mostly as Mulan who seems to have a healthy balance of boosts, close range and far range attacks, but to make things more complicated, and something Mike didn't mention, is that most items perform differently depending on if you press the use button, hold the use button or hit the use button while holding back on the control stick. This can make the "shell" equivalent either a green shell by just pressing the button, a red shell by holding it, or you can fire it backwards.

I think the game doesn't do a great job explaining all of that. So a lot of people don't even know you can send out a homing shot on a lot of items by just holding the button down. So if you're in 2nd, it's kind of up to you to bring the 1st place player back to the pack.

Aesthetically, aurally, and structurally, this game is a bummer. It looks for all the world like a Disney mod of a generic mobile racing game. Even without the service game garbage, it would still have a gaping void where a soul should be.
