Game Mess Mornings 09/15/2022

My parents were both teachers. In my state you had to choice to get paid for just the school year or spread it out for the whole year. They also got paid only once a month. So Jan's other half might be right about not getting paid until September.

Prey is really great, once you get over the hump. After Prey though, you gotta play Prey Mooncrash: it's a proto-Deathloop, but doesn't have the latters linear meta progression. Instead, its much more of an actual roguelite, and rewards you for playing your own way. I actually think Mooncrash is better than Prey, but only when viewed from the vantage of having played Prey. There's so much smart design in there, its a real shame more of it wasn't brought forward into Deathloop.

While I will definitely give a thumbs up to playing Prey because it's criminally underrated, I'm not sure how much of it would translate to Deathloop. As someone who adores most of Arkane's library, especially Prey, I found Deathloop to be a colossal letdown. It was easily one of my most disappointing games of the last several years.

The games might look similar on the surface, but there are very, very different design philosophies going on under the hood.

Prey is underrated. The gameplay is rather awesome in Prey.

I echo the call to play Prey: Mooncrash. As for DEATHLOOP -- GamePass will be great for it, free sounds about the right price for that disappointment.

What happened at 39:26 ? Just as Jan says "Yeah bros" it's like there's an edit but only on the brim of his baseball cap. Not his face or Grubb... what? Or did it just flip down in a single frame?
