Game Mess Mornings 12/09/22

Would have been interesting to know what games todays guest plays- feel like I didn’t know where their work or interest was coming from.

@mrangryface: yeah, I’ve really come to value opinions about games from people outside the industry but that was a really odd dynamic from someone who’s in it. I just have to assume they are very talented writer and artist who has a handful of games they are pretty passionate about.

Jeff still made it flow like a pro and I still like the idea of branching the morning show to more unfamiliar faces even if they don’t classify as a gaming knowledge generalist per say.

@mrangryface: Yeah agreed Saniya seems cool but they seemed a bit out of their element and a proper introduction up front could have helped a lot.

Indeed. I tried searching her name afterward but her first/last is extremely common. She seems really nice but halfway through a gaming news roundup show hearing the cohost say they are really bad at games was ear-opening.

I would bet there is a segment she might be killer on but I really don’t know who she is or what she does.

This was a rough listen. I appreciate Grubb for putting in the work and doing what he could.

I can’t see Microsoft abandoning the deal and they expected to end up in admin court. FTC loses their butt the second this moves on. I like Khan and many of her thoughts on big tech but this doesn’t seem the way to go.

Not sure what some of these other comments have issue with, but I thought it was just fine, and I always appreciate bringing on any new guests to signal boost them, especially in the face of an industry that seems to be unsustainably doing layoffs at shitty times.

I'd also like to see Saniya back on again at some point. I wasn't familiar with her work, but I'm taking notice now. Loved her take on CoD, lol

Hard disagree with Grubb on that Game Awards troll. A child shoplifting a candy bar is dumb kid stuff. A preteen defacing a bathroom stall in junior high is dumb kid stuff.

What that jackass did at the show is on a different level. He's apparently a known entity, and his history provides an example of a developing, right-wing reactionary to anyone understanding how that stuff works. Shit is super precarious right now, and emboldened twerps like this don't deserve the kiddie glove treatment.

It was frustrating enough hearing Grubb brush him off, but apparently even Schreier's been thrown by his schtick.

I love when Grubb brings on new faces that (I'm) not familiar with. Saniya seemed a little nervous but I hope they will consider coming back. Maybe they'll be more comfortable with the camera next time, and then we'll get more of her much-needed perspective on our messy gaming news.

It's from 505 who also publish Payday, and Damion Poitier who plays Chains in Payday. My initial read of it as a stealth heist game from 505 with Poitier was as a single player reimagining of Payday.

Regarding Saniya, I liked her and didn't have the issues others did.

I do strongly disagree with Grubb about the troll on stage being a "whatever" thing. Keep in mind that Salman Rushdie was recently stabbed on stage and one of the people at the show was Hideo Kojima who happened to be the target of a false conspiracy theory regarding the very real assassination of a former Prime Minister. Whoever was in charge of security at this show was incompetent especially as I, a friend, and all the peeps at GB doing the Talk Over could instantly determine he didn't belong.

Saniya did fine. Would have liked some direct links to her work in the show notes or something, if we're going to signal-boost new voices.
