Who would call this one of the worst Mario games lol

Thank you Jess, I picked up 3D World last year to finally see what all the fuss was about, and found the controls to be hot slippery garbage for anything even vaguely precise

I love how they start playing Mario 3D World, only to realize how overrated the game is. I agree. 3D World is a good Mario game, but far from the greatest Mario game ever made. And yes, Odyssey is better in a lot of ways. 3D World is better than Sunshine, but mainly because of Sunshine's camera issues. If it weren't that, Sunshine would have a legit argument as top 5.

Idk if it ever got answered, but in most pop culture drafts, the winner is decided by an audience poll. So, you draft your top 10? Mario games, and then you put a twitter poll to decide who's was the best.

I definitely think there are animals with IR (essentially heat) vision. Human vision is pretty limited in a lot of ways. A quick google search returned a nat geo article that even says some snakes can see portions of the IR spectrum. Pretty neat.

You guys are really firing on all cylinders lately. Saw Old Games today and thought that might be standing in for a UPF, but here we have UPF, too. The shows and streams introduced lately are awesome. And there's so much stuff good stuff on hiatus. Lots of content, lots of quality.

Jess, please make that Sam Barlow Hot Takeout! I enjoyed Her Story but I'd love to hear your thoughts on it and to see more content like that on GB.

Sunshine has more issues than just the camera.

3D World is a blown up iteration of 3D Land on the 3DS and takes in some questionable control design decisions in tow. The simplified controls coupled with the frustrating chaos of multiplayer Mario has me empathizing with Jess.

It's been a while so I can't comment on the acceleration and friction of 3D World compared to Galaxy or Odyssey, but one of the sticking points with 3D World and 3D Land are the locked-in and stiff octagonal movement of the characters. While this helps with moving straight on the isometric dioramas of the levels, it doesn't feel smooth like in other 3D Mario games.

Gotta say Jess just giving up in 3d world and bubbling ruins the enjoyment of the video. I wish y'all just let her actually quit or something. Just a pet peeve of mine when someone's clearly not wanting to be involved yet is kind of forced to :/

One of the best games ever made! I need to replay it again on Switch after my saves got deleted recently. This was one of the first Mario games were I really looked into the design and why it was so clever and satisfying. This video is brief but definitely got my mind going on the artistry behind games that appear simplistic.

This is among my favorite Mario games for one reason: This is how I imagined 3D Mario would be when I was a kid. Mario 64 is alright, but it has always, always struck me as a little weird and un-Mario. The sheer energy and fun of Odyssey still win out in the end, but 3D World is easily the most fully realized, Mario-ass Mario game ever.

Jess is the best part of this video! Everyone's ability to bring energy to a stream even if they don't like the game is why I love GB.

Oh boy. This game is terrible to watch multiplayer. It's just chaos on the screen and hard to parse what's happening.

100% on Jess' side with this game, got it on the Wii U after the glowing praise (and generally liking 3D Mario games) and NOTHING about it clicked. But I also don't really like Odyssey as much as everyone else, so I just assumed it was me. Fun stream though!

As someone that finds Odyssey to be somewhat mid (largely due to the Switches sticks sucking) I feel Jess's pain.

Her quitting the game and then going a tangent to relitigate Dan's 83rd favorite game of all time instead was a kind of energy, I guess.

I agree with whoever said they should have just let her quit or picked a new game or something. This UPF was great for exactly 1 hour and it's almost 2 hours long.

Please don't do more of this in 4-player multiplayer videos. As a thing to watch in the background, it's fine, but I might as well minimize the video and just listen. It's too much chaos on the screen. It's just not fun to watch.

4 Player probably not the best way to experience this game the first time. Truly an amazing game, but sad to see Jan and Jess weren't as into it.

I try not to be negative, but playing a single game for the whole duration isn't what I want out of UPF-- I'm sure it's harder to organize different games from different people, given the remote nature, but the core charm of the show (for me) has always been the conversation plus seeing a variety of oddball games that otherwise would never be featured.

I hope this is more in the nature of helpful feedback than otherwise?

I think some of what makes this game work worse online is that this game was designed for local multiplayer on the WiiU, and they didn't adapt it for the Switch that well. So a lot of stuff like the camera following someone, the "touch" controls, all makes a lot more sense when you're playing in person, like actually in person.

I love the single player but the multiplayer in this game is so fucked. Fun, stupid fun specifically, but still fucked.

I like that UPF is being used for multiplayer games as opposed to each person individually bringing their own game while everyone else talks about other stuff with this crew and environment. The banter and antics of old UPF made sense when it was a bunch of people together in a basement with couches. To me, taking advantage of having a group and doing group games and activities makes more sense currently.

Also, Super Mario 3D World is easily one of the greatest games of all time, THANX

I love this game, but Jess is right about a lot of her points. The controls are a bit slippery and take a while to get used to, but this is mainly due to them carrying over the 2D DS, Wii and WiiU game physics to a 3D platformer. Multiplayer is way too frantic and my partner quit after a few levels and preferred me playing and her pointing out where hidden stars/stamps might be.

Anyway, fun UPF. Good hearing seasoned views of the game from Grubb and Dan and some newbie views from Jess and Jan. A team that can talk about their personal critiques, still have some fun playing together and bring a level of energy and excitement is why I tune in. Thanks GB!

I lost my cat this time last year. I watch Giant Bomb to escape from things. I know Jeff openly does not like cats thanks to Abby’s Resident Evil streams. But, Jan too?

I appreciate Jan at least didn’t go full Bakalar cat rant, though.

Yeah, I agree. I just turned this off half way through. I'm not mad because someone doesn't like the game, I'm just not interested in hearing about it for two hours.
