We Played a Little Bit of Redfall!

Hearing this game is underwhelming (in a 90-minute demo) is not too surprising. I really wanted to love Prey and Deathloop, and I just fell off of each. Seems like this game is going to walk the same path, at least with the single-player (which will be the vast majority of my time with it, I bet).

Appreciate Dan and Jeff B giving their honest impressions and articulating why it felt off. Some other coverage I’ve read hasn’t given me much insight into the level of fun it promises.

Kind of a weird video. Lots of time spent talking about unrelated games and what this one does differently from them. Critiquing this game for not being like Breath of the Wild was a bizarre tangent.

Once you name your game RedFall, it's going to have a real uphill battle.

Naturally survivor bias plays a part here and there are plenty of popular games with real headscratchers of names, but once a game goes ..Fall or ... Rise, i just lose all faith in the game having something worthwhile to say or show.

There was an entire studio that thought a game called Warface could be a hit.

@csl316: in a world where Elden Ring and BOTW exist, i think it's totally normal to expect more from open world. Are you Really exploring if you're following quest markers ? Are you really discovering things if you're just going from icon to icon in a map ?
A year ago when FarCry 6 came out, everyone said that this franchise should not keep going this way and switch things up a bit because this type of open world is just not that interesting anymore.

BOTW is the easy go to, obviously, but i feel like what they mean is exactly that : More modern open world design would be welcome in this kind of game. And i can't agree more : after pausing Horizon Forbidden West to play Elden Ring, i tried to go back many times and couldn't keep on playing.

Sounds like we need another Dishonored. But I still hope this turns out well.

This kind of sounds/looks like a supernatural Far Cry with loot, which may not light the world on fire but I will definitely give it a shot.

Sigh. Another vaguely competant but ultimately underwhelming next gen game then?

The good news is that its on Game Pass day one, so many people will be able to see for themselves if this game is worth the time or not. Dan's critic really doesn't tell me much when he is saying I wish this vampire FPS was more like fantasy based BOTW.

@av_gamer: I think he meant it more as in the quantity of things he could do in the open world and it's exploration should maybe take some inspiration from BOTW

It's amazing how many games are just... predictably weak. This game looks very generic. I'm sure it will come and go quickly.

Also kind of funny seeing how triggered some people are in the comments. It's unfortunate, and I hope this ends up being a good game.

Once they announced it was an "open world" with random missions all across the island I had a feeling it wouldnt be that interesting. Shame cause it could have been cool. They should go back to making games more like Dishonored. More linear missions while having a cool world to explore

After reading/hearing more previews of Redfall that are so radically different from this video, I'm starting to wonder about Dan and Bakalar's reads on modern games. Not that they're wrong, just that they might be wrong for me. I'm interested to see how this game actually plays, but its gonna suck if there's no one at GB that I can trust for how a game might work for me.
