April O'Neil is a prominent figure in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise, though her exact appearance and role has varied between continuities. In most incarnations, she is rescued and befriended by the turtles after being attacked by thugs. In the incarnation made popular by the 1987 animated series, she is an adult that works as a news reporter for a local television station. This particular portrayal carried over to the live-action films of the early 1990s, as well as the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles video games produced during the NES and Super NES eras.
April is rarely a playable character due to her more supportive role, but players may choose to play as her in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Tournament Fighters for Sega Genesis as well as Ubisoft's TMNT: Smash-Up for Wii.
