Battlefield 1943: $15, Hits Consoles In June, PC In September

Also, this new trailer celebrates why Wake Island is one of the best multiplayer maps ever.

DICE's downloadable return to World War II, Battlefield 1943, has been priced and dated. The three-map, three-player-class team-based shooter will hit Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network for 1200 Microsoft points and $14.99 in American money in June, and will follow at the same price on the PC in September.

To celebrate the announcement, EA has released this trailer showing you why Wake Island is one of the best multiplayer maps ever designed for any game, ever.

I played '43 briefly at an EA event recently, and I'm not totally convinced yet it's going to capture the magic of the original Battlefield 1942. It's been a long time since that game came out, and times have changed. Plus, with fewer classes, I'm concerned it may not have the same variety of gameplay and crazy shenanigans going on all around you. That impression is based on just a few minutes with the game, though, and on the upside, it's got destructible environments now.

All that said, BF 1942 is one of my favorite games ever, so I admittedly have pretty high expectations for anything purporting to be a direct follow-up. Did you play '42 back in the day, and are you looking forward to this as a suitable successor?
