Bungie: There Will Be A Payoff, Please Remain Calm

Is tomorrow the day for information on Bungie's next project? Probably?

METROPOLITAN EMERGENCY!
METROPOLITAN EMERGENCY!
It's been a bit of a roller-coaster for Bungie-related information lately. E3 was a complete mess, with Bungie running a countdown to an announcement that never happened, supposedly because Microsoft pulled the plug on it.

Lately, though, some of the same style of teasers have been surfacing on the company's site, and now, as seen in this screen-grab of bungie.net, we've got a countdown. A countdown that appears to expire tomorrow morning, to be exact. That'll be around 7AM Giant Bomb time, 10AM in New York. If you live somewhere else, you'll have to do the math for yourself, my mind can't handle anything outside of the US. Also keep in mind that tomorrow is also the one-year anniversary of Halo 3's release.

There's also a reassurance in the teaser, a handy little note that "there will be a payoff" and "please remain calm."

The last teaser message was posted a couple of days ago, and it makes enough of a reference to the Halo universe ("Ready the MAC, and come about" is a fairly clear reference to the Magnetic Accelerator Cannon used by the humans) and enough of a reference to squads to point to this being the squad-based Halo spin-off, the same game that was all the rage in rumor circles right around E3.

It may not be a Halo MMO or anything (or hell, maybe it is!), but I'd be really interested to see Bungie's take on GRAW-style squad-based combat. If this countdown clock is to be believed, maybe we'll all know tomorrow morning.

In the meantime, I guess I should get around to downloading the new Halo 3 update, which patches in a few achievements and other odds and ends.
