I see you other mech warrior 5 fans.

I wrote off Devil May Cry 5 early, wondering why the heck so many people praised it. But when Dante enters the game, it soooo much better and honestly I wish Capcom did a lot more with the DMC5's final form (when you have all the crazy upgrades). Definitely one of the biggest surprises for me personally this year and the best DMC game since the first one. Even better than DMC3.

Also shoutouts to the 30 other Later Alligator voters for putting Pat, family and friends in the top 100!

I can see what you mean, but that's kinda every DMC game. You usually get some cool new ability near the end of the games (in this case, the literal end) and you can go back on higher difficulties and use them now. But yeah, Dante is my favorite character as well!

It warms my heart that death stranding got voted so high :) Im really glad so many people were able to dig what it had to offer.

I don't mean to be that guy, but 2019 was a down year for games after a huge 2018. Guess everyone's waiting for the next gen of consoles.

I think Pathologic 2 is a cool thing to see on this list since it didn't even get a Quick Look I don't think.

Cool seeing Control up top. Was definitely my favourite thing I played all year (even if I agree about the issues with the final secition which almost soured me on the game)

Congrats Control for taking the top spot. The funny thing is, gameplay wise, Control is actually kind of sluggish compared to the Max Payne series, Alan Wake, and even Quantum Break, but it's the presentation that draws you in and make it a unforgettable experience.

Death Stranding being highly ranked is interesting. I haven't played it yet, so either the game is better then people claimed overall, or people just like and respect Kojima that much and want him to keep making games.

Sekiro, I have to finish, but from what I've played, its just another Souls with a different twist on gameplay.

And since Outerwilds have heen ranked so high by the community, I'll give it a shot.

I literally Ctrl-F'd Mechwarrior once I read the first blurbs.

@csl316: I see your shout into the void, and raise you a 'that sounds promising and I already own it, I might as well play it along with Alan Wake while I wait for the DLC for Control'. I love finding comments like this that speak to the contrary of what I have been told ad -nauseam about a game 'not worth my time' when, like, Idk, I was told Absolver was Kung Fu Dark Souls over and over; and surprise, since 2017, it has been my favorite and most hour invested, fighting-game-genre-re-invention of addictive gameplay to date. It also is encouraging to see someone be outspoken about games 'actually being pretty cool' instead of taking a critical angle on what the shortcomings are over what maes the game fun or cool or worth booting up.

This list is solid.
