'Comprehensive' Fallout: New Vegas Patch Is Coming

Bethesda aims to squash save corruption bugs, as well as other unspecified stuff.

Super Mutants, Bark Scorpions, and other Fallout: New Vegas baddies always get the jump on me. It's not because I suck--it's because I run backwards. I've discovered that if you jog while facing companions, it's easier to keep track of them and recover them quicker if they get stuck on geometry (which happens quite often in the wastelands). Obviously, this is not an ideal way to play New Vegas, but it's just one of those things you have to live with if you want to enjoy the fun, yet buggy game.

Better and more forward-facing times are on the horizon I'm assuming, as Bethesda has announced a big 'ole "comprehensive" patch for all three of the game's platforms. According to a recent Bethesda blog post about it, Bethesda mentions that the patch will squash save file corruption bugs and address a "number of other issues being reported" by people. Surely, companion glitches have been brought up to the studio often enough to be fixed with this one, right? Fingers are crossed.

This patch is expected to arrive in a few weeks, as it exits final testing and hits certification. A different and smaller PC-specific patch that will address companion woes, save corruption issues, and improve NVIDIA owners' performance problems is expected to drop as early as next week.

Considering the sheer amount of issues with this unfinished game, any site/mag that lists it as a contender for GOTY has to be really big tools or sell outs.

I'll wait for the patch after this one and hopefully it'll be in a beta status.

@Lind_L_Taylor: I think we are in general agreement. It would be very interesting to see how things went in production. I have a making of DVD in the box set but I don't think it is going to show the interesting stuff.
You talk about money and time but they must have a ton of the former as they have now shipped 5mil copies. I think maybe the engine is so poor that no matter how long they took they wouldn't iron out all the bugs and making such a huge complicated world needs far more players than is practicable in QC to find them all - which is why many are coming out now when they have the whole gaming community as their QC. I seem to remember Red Dead having to patch for problems as well so maybe its just very difficult in open world games.

I've not really had too many bugs in the first 25 hours, to be honest: I couldn't get the Legion to take me to Cesar initially, but it worked after a reboot; I can't recruit Cass as I have "too many followers" even without any followers; and Boone has clipped through a well once or twice.  Hardly game breaking.

GREAT game, I have to say.

I think I'll have to write a blog about the origins of my
writing style. lol.  This is the only forum that makes me
apprehensive about it.  Stay tuned!

5 million copies sold? Wow.  Hope that means Obsidian
will be able to make some better games. I'm still holding
out that the Aliens RPG will be brought back out of the
closet.
