EGM RIP PDF

Apparently all my headlines are going to be jam-packed with acronyms today.

A much more fitting coda.
A much more fitting coda.
One of the more minor tragedies of EGM going out the way it has is the fact that the cover story for the final issue of the nearly 20-year-old magazine is for the game based on the upcoming Wolverine spin-off movie. No disrespect to the developers at Raven Software or Hugh Jackman, but that's a pretty lousy bookend, especially when you consider that the magazine kicked off with a sweet Mega Man 2 cover story. What's worse is the fact that the EGM team had actually finished their February 2009 issue, which was to have a fairly kick-ass Street Fighter IV cover, before getting the axe, but it never made it to the printers. That would've been particularly fitting, seeing as there have been more issues of EGM featuring Street Fighter than any other franchise.

Yesterday, while the rest of the magazine staff cleaned out their offices as Citizen Kane played on loop in the background, EGM's Editor-in-Chief and fashionista James Mielke updated his 1up blog to reveal that, while their February issue will never see newsstands, it will be made available on 1up, complete with ads, sometime in the near future. Hopefully they go with a nice portable format like PDF and not just a bunch of web pages. We all know how volatile those can be, particularly these days.
