They seemed rather ecstatic about the acquisition, therefore I will continue to support them.

You guys are worrying too much. This is ideal. It's the same business story that's been told many times before: people get pushed out of the fold for being different, they do their own thing that gets them really successful, and they come back and lead the charge to glory.

Wow... I knew the internet was full of negativity, but this?! Come on guys, Have some faith in the boys at GB. I'm pretty sure they're doing everything in they possibly can to keep their baby safe. And if that means possibly splitting off in the future to make another guerrilla style giant bomb site, then so be it... just let what's gonna happen, happen... Or you can keep acting like Bioware "Fans" and make asses out of yourselves... ether way, I'm gonna go watch some more of the P4ER before I go to work...

I don't think it's fair to blame the GB guys for selling out when they don't own Whiskey Media. Shelby Bonnie owns Whiskey Media, and from the sound of things he made the decision to sell it. We don't know how much say the staff of Giantbomb actually had in any of these decisions. The fact that all of Whiskey Media is being sold leads me to believe that it's unlikely Giantbomb was shopping around for a buyer just so they could get rich.

You're right about that. I didn't mean to imply that I was blaming the Giant Bomb team. What I should have said was "I can't believe they were sold out to CBS."

Either way, I find the news pretty disappointing. I wouldn't be surprised if the Giant Bomb guys are a little worried too. They seem to really care about quality content.

I agree with this 100% it makes no sense for CBS at this juncture.

If Gamespot makes money, and GiantBomb makes money, it is worth it for CBS to have two gaming websites. The fixed costs exist in terms of rent, infrastructure, ect., and with both brands under one roof it really isn't a problem. CBS can have 1,000 gaming websites if they all make money.

But the reason they got bought is because they DON'T make money, and CBS will make sure they do.

How that will be achieved is what scares me...

Ok, so my point still stands. If, under CBS, Giantbomb can make money, then they (CBS) will have two profitable websites. Why would they merge those? Besides, this has been something that Jeff has had a long time to think about. I'm sure this possibility has crossed his mind and I'm sure he has acted to ensure it won't happen.

Yes but then some accountants come in under the mantra "CBS needs to make MORE money to make our investors happy" and then they look at the books.

"Hmm, why do we have two gaming sites, it could be super efficient if we created just ONE AWESOME site. Which one has more <insert web metric here>? Gamespot? Okay, lets consolidate around that brand!"

This is America, its not just about making money - its about making MORE money than you did last year.

And yet these claims, while possible, exist on the assumption that you possess facts you do not, and this projection flies in the face of everything we know about Jeff and co. as well as their positive attitude about the whole thing and what they have said so far.

Woah. Does this mean Alex is joining the Bombcast or just reviewing/investigatin'? A six man pod might just be too much.

He'll still be working from the East Coast, I think -- that's what I gathered from his Twitter, anyway. Not sure if he'll just be sticking to news and occasional reviews, or if he'll be expanding into other features. The logistics would seem a little crazy if they tried to do anything more, but who knows. He's Skyped into a Bombcast before (granted, only for about five minutes), so I guess it's not completely out of the question. I agree six-man pod casts would be noisy -- maybe he'd just join in when there's something the other guys want to talk to him about, or when they're down a man? Really curious to see how everything works out.

Everyone who is freaking out over this, go watch the justin tv video, it explains quite a lot & the GB crew will be keeping control on the content of the site. Don't send them any mail to the office as it's changing. Plus they wouldn't have gone forward with a change like this if they were going to lose any control on the site's content.

If this were any other crew of dudes, I'd be worried. But come on people, remember who we're dealing with here - it's the Bomb crew, you think they're going to let some corporate group fuck up their shit? Remember how Giantbomb got here in the first place, they wouldn't do this if they weren't certain they could do it their way.

I'm excited, and frankly having been following these guys as long as I have, I'm going to feel a bit poetic and triumphal when they get back to the old digs - we should be supporting them with this, this is a big deal.

My initial reaction was to be worried about what this meant for the website but after thinking about it for more than a second I realized that you wouldn't do anything that wasn't in the best interest of the website and you wouldn't sign up with anyone who wanted to change what you guys are all about. So long as the vibe stays the same and you use all that SWEET SWEET MONEY CASH to make tons of content, I'll be happy.

I feel sorry for the people who think the GameSpot of today hasn't changed from five years ago.  It is a miracle those people have enough in their skulls to be able to eat, sleep and breathe, let alone read text on the internet and write.

The relentless positivity by the guys bothers me no end. They should address the facts in an upfront manner and acknowledge the effect this will have on their current viewers and subscribers. The "this is the best thing ever" vibe they are putting out just reeks of insincerity and is glossing over the facts (what ever they may be). Reading the article about Whiskey Media being sold and split up only servers to reinforce my personal belief that GiantBomb had no real say on where they landed, it was the suits holding the purse strings that decided how this breakup was going to land and everyone at the front end was required to put on a happy face. Perhaps we shall see an expose someday about the actual workings of this deal.

I will still be satisfied if indeed GiantBomb continues in it's current format with the Ql's and Bombcasts as that is what I visit the site for.

You know what nay-sayers? If the last few years of being the best damn video game site on the internet doesn't earn them enough good will to keep you from bailing because of a snap decision the minute this news is announced, I won't weep for you.

Even if this DOES spell the end of GB as we know it, which I doubt, I'll happily ride it right into the fucking ground.

CBS Makes money from selling ads. So they go to their sponsors and say Sponsor A want to0 buy some spots on our video game websites to hit the male 17-28 demo. And Sponsor A says sure. CBS says well you can put your ads on GS or GB. Or pay us more to go on BOTH? and sponsor is like? whats the difference? well GS is bigger. So... I think the point of this was to get good talent from GB and just meld them into GS to improve GS. I am personally happy that the guys do what they like to do and get paid for it like grownups. But the idea that GB will stay the same makes no sense. Why would an advertiser pay for ads over two Similar websites (i don't think Sprint cares about the diff between GS and GB right?) instead of getting the bang for his buck on one.

@FengShuiGod: Actually, Jeff talking about being fired from GS is in the best interest of Gamespot - think about it for a second; if John Davison (whom I totally respect) sits down w/ Jeff and gets him to tell the tale of how the old regime wronged him, it'll be real easy to condemn those actions and hype the new and improved, Davison-run GS. This is a PR move - nothing more, and nothing less.

Just don't know what to say at the moment... As I was never visiting Gamespot in the past, I don't have this deep hatred for them as many others, I just learned through one of the old 1UP Podcasts about Gerstmanngate and thought what a bunch of fucktards...

But I will give GB give the benefit of a doubt for the moment and hope that will everything go like planned for them... But there is still this nagging voice in my head that those type of mergers usually doesn't end well for the smaller/independent party...
